Alex- I have read several threads mentioning you and your weight loss, but I am unaware of your story. Would you please tell me, and everyone else that is relatively new here the whys, whats, whens, how's and wheres of your journey? PLEASE????? Enquiring minds NEED to know!

I wish I had a really inspiring story...
I was sitting on the computer one nite, DW was watching the news. I was WAY overweight, over 335 but I really had no plans for dieting at that point. A story came on the news about this "amazing" diet and some guy talked about how he ate a half a pound of bacon every day etc and lost weight. Atkins had, of course, been around for a while but it wasn't nearly as popular as it is now. I hopped on Amazon and ordered the book.
I got the book, read it through and went "oh yea right that will work".
Back then there were NO atkins products in stores. You could order some stuff of the web. I am basically lazy so it was easier to do my no carb atkins then to figure out all the mock stuff etc. I can still remember emailing Carol (aka rates) some links because she had started later and there still wasn't much in the stores.
It just worked, the pounds dropped off and I lost over a 100. Later when I started with the bars etc, I totally loved them but noticed I never really lost weight like I did before. I have maintained but I really could drop another 50 pounds. One of these days I will get going again.

Alex and Carol (CAK) inspired me!!! Alex posted before and after pictures on the old Inspiration board. I said if he could do it I could. At the time I weighed 205 lbs. I am only 5 feet tall, so that is a big amount of fat on a little frame. I could not do anything :( Anyway, I had 4 year old twins and I could not keep up with them, I know I needed to try something. So I emailed Alex and he gave me links and info...that was July of 2001. I did Atkins seriously for 8 months and lost 55 lbs...I maintained it until Dec. of this last yer when I gained 5 lbs and I decided I wanted to finish the journey :) So here I am...I have lost 17.5 since 1/29 I have somewhere between 5-10 more...it really depends on how I feel and look...I can not wait and am hoping to hit the 120's before my late May trip....I have not seen the 120's since I was in highschool :)

Thank you for sharing you history...it helps!!

Tracy

How about a success story in the making. I am still at the beginning of this journey but it is amazing what it has done for me! I was inspired by Glo last year when I seen her mention her results on one of the WISH threads.

I was always one of those skinny girls thru high school. I started putting on the weight in my adult years. I gained alot with DD(20) but managed to get down to 124 with diet pills. Gained it all back with DS(14) and have managed to put on more every year! In April 2002 I was at my highest of 247. I am only 5'2'' (and 40 years old).

I started my low carb lifestyle in June 2002. By the end of December I was down to 215 but put on some weight after the holidays. I started the WISH challenge on day one (January 30th) at 222. I am currently at 217 and working on changing that 5 pound clippie to a 10 pound one!

I am eating controlled carbohydrate. And know that it is a lifetime change for me. I had horrible IBS prior to this way of eating and it has now regulated itself. I can go away now without having to worry that a bathroom will be a minute away. That was worth the change in eating in itself -- the weight coming off is just an extra bonus!

A word of warning for those considering low carb eating. The first week I went thru horrible sugar withdrawal. My body must have been very addicted. I had major headaches and felt flu like. It was rough getting thru the day. I stuck it out and by the second week I couldn't believe how great I felt!

My stats at the start of this journal are:
5'2''
247/217/139
:D

Your stories are amazing! It is so helpful to me to read all these stories and hear about your success! When you're just starting out it is very hard. I can't imagine not giving up on this half way through- or sooner. Doesn't eating the same old thing get to you after a while? Did any of you ever have problems with your gall bladder? Did you all have other test results, like cholestorol etc, make a turn for the better as a result of this diet.

Alex- how long did it take you to lose 100 lbs. And what are you doing to maintain that? How long did you stay on induction? Or have you been on induction all along? Can you repost your before and after pics?

Glo- you're amazing! If I calculate it right, you've been doing this for about 11 months and you are within 5-10 lbs of your goal! WOW! If I could be there that fast- by the time I went to WDW in January 2004, I would be much, much thinner and much, much happier! Ah- the thought of that seems almost impossible!

Wovenwonder- is there a difference between conrolled carb eating and Atkins, or are they one in the same? Atkins, to me for all practicle purposes means <20 carbs. PERIOD. I think because of the amount of weight I have to lose (over 100 lbs.) I'll have to be on the induction phase of Atkins for many months.

Thanks to all who have answered so far- PLEASE Keep those stories coming!

Karen,
I am doing Atkins about as close to it as you can get. Sometimes I may have only 5-10 grams of carbs and then next day maybe a little higher than 20. I actually don't even count my carbs (that's why I can't say I'm doing 'Atkins') I just work on eating the lowest carb foods. I strayed for awhile after losing 30 pounds in 6 months -- but I'm back on track again!:D

HERE is another very inspirational story for you to read!;)
