Please help!! My son logged into his webkinz account and everything in his rooms has been changed to PINK!!!! We are both so upset. He did not give his password out, which wouldn't help anyway because you aren't able to change wallpapers during normal use. This is a hack job!!!! I can't find any kind of customer service number to webkinz. I am SO upset!!!!!! Anyone? Please???

Hmm I think you can change wallpaper during normal use- If someone logged on as him they could have bought new wallpaper and just put it into his room. I think he did give out his info to someone.(maybe he forgot?)
My dd had a friend log on as her while we on vacation and she just bought food for her "pets" but she could have done anything she wanted to with the username and password.
I don't think that hackers would be going in to change rooms to pink either:rotfl2: sounds like there is a girlfriend in his life

More like obnoxious 9 year old boys. You're right, you can buy new paper and replace it - that's what we ended up doing and sold the other pink stuff and rebought new stuff (and changed his password). He's okay with it now that he knows he can change it back.

This is only the beginning of my kids being on the web, and already he's getting abused. Yuck.

My kids are a little old for webkinz, but they did the whole neopet thing online. (I believe it was called neopet.) Believe me, they give their passwords out to a friend to show them something or trade or whatever they do. Then once in awhile the "friend" goes in and does something on the account.

It seems like a good lesson to him about giving out his password. I bet he won't do that again for awhile. Its also a good teaching moment about things on the internet not being secure and why we don't put out personal info, talk to strangers, etc.

I've Been there and done that. Wait until they want a Myspace page. :headache:

I think in this case it was more of a password that was easy to guess for his classmates. :guilty: :sad2:

BTW - love your ebay name - elinor_dashwood. I'm in the midst of exploring Jane Austen fan fiction - something I thought I would never do, but I've found that I enjoy it very much. It's great for an escape!

I'm glad it's fixed!

My 6 year old gave out all of his webkinz info to a friend who couldn't think of his own. And this was after we had the talk about not sharing passwords! DS just wanted his friend on webkinz too, so they sat together and thought up a pet name, and DS told him to use his ID and password. :)

One night, I was having trouble sleeping and I logged into DD6's Webkinz account to play some Tile Towers. So, at around 1 a.m. I suddenly got logged out and a box popped up saying that someone had logged into the account from a different computer. In the morning, I asked DD if she had given her password out and she said that the only person that she told her password to was the 8-year-old next door, who I know wasn't up that late (and I can't imagine any friends that she might have told were either). Now, this could just be a Webkinz glitch (one of many, no doubt), but I don't doubt that there are Webkinz hackers out there.

Scary. But I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes on to play the games once in a while! LOL!

I always get logged out at 11 pm central time saying they are down for maintenance. it was my understanding that the site is shut down everynight at midnight (there time). Is anyone else able to play later than that?

Thanks. Not many people recognize the name. Most of the people who contact me through ebay start out their letters "Dear elinor ..." :)

Ok here's an idea. To let him know not just creeps on the internet. If you pm me his name I can have my 9 year old dd send him some "sports" theme item. She is rolling in the dough. I think they can do that if they have a screen name? Or do they have to be friends already to send mail?

Have him check again next time. My DD had everything disappear from her room but the next day it all reappeared. It would probably be a good time, for him to change his password....:surfweb:

Just an update- I had emailed webkinz (support@webkinz.com) and they sent me a customer service number and a pin. I called and talked to a very nice Canadian :-) . We decided that it had to be someone who guessed his password (which wasn't very secure and we've since changed to a more secure one - who thought we'd have to worry about 9 yr old hackers?). Anyway, when I asked him about losing his exclusive items, he asked if my son was missing items. Then he looked in his records and it showed the user name of the person to whom my son's stuff had been sent (I didn't even know you could send stuff to other people). So this "friend" of my son hacked into his account, changed his room themes to princess themes, sent himself the good stuff, and used up my son's kinzcash and bought princess stuff. I'm sure he thought it was funny, but it wasn't. The CS man told me the username, so I know who did this now. The CS man is also going to credit my son's account with some kinzcash to make up for it, which was very very nice of him.

The CS man suggested I talk to the boy's parents, but I don't think I'm going to go there. It's a small town and it will turn into a big deal. A lesson for us to be very careful. I'm not even going to tell my son who did it, I don't think. He would probably get into a fight about it with him, and we don't need that.

Yeesh. Thanks everybody who responded - your ideas were helpful.

I would say something to the parents. Let them know that their son is able to do this. This kid could be hacking into the Pentagon next year if not curbed. If there are no ramifications of what he did, then what is to stop him the next time he crosses a boundary?

I agree with PP do not let it go. Dont make a huge issue but atleast let his parents know.

I don't know, that would be hard. I'm trying to imagine if my son was the one doing it. I guess I would want to know, but would also be mortified. And lesser people might retaliate with rumors of their own. Again, this is a small town with lots of gossipers and everybody thinks their kids are perfect. But my son is not perfect and has gotten into trouble in school a few times.

I'd probably also get "oh, it was just a prank, no one got hurt" yadda yadda. Not sure it's worth it. But I can tell the story without naming names so that people are aware this could happen.

We get logged out at around 11:15 p.m. CST and then the site comes back up around 1 a.m. CST. I'm not often on that late, but sometimes when I can't sleep, I'll go make some money for "Rosetta" and "Winchester." :thumbsup2

My son's account was hacked also. He is 12 and did NOT give out his password. All of his items disappeared. He had 12 pets and several exclusives. Customer service told me over 300 items had been sent out of his account. They refused to tell me anything about the person who took the items. They said it was against privacy laws and minors. So I don't know why they told you who it was and would not tell me who did it to my son's. They did reimburse some kincash but refused to give him the exclusive iitems back. The exclusives were what he was upset over. Have you ever seen a 12 yr old boy cry?? I was very upset and disappointed in their custumer service.

I have trouble getting onto my account (yes my account) late at night. Saturday I got back from NYC at about 2:00 AM it wouldn't let me on.

I was sending my nephew gifts and he never said thanks. Turns out the little bugger was selling the presents I sent him. BTW he types so slow I know his password. I also know DDs. She kicked me out finally and I had to get my own account.

Games are a great way to destress from life.

DD gave DS's password out to her friend so they could play together - after I told her not to share passwords. Exact same thing happened. Her "friend" sold all of DS's stuff and replaced everything with pretty pink stuff. Needless to say, DD went and bought DS new webkinz to register so he could get all his exclusive stuff back. Tough lesson for her, sad for DS...I hope he gets all his stuff back! I would definitely tell the kids parents they owe him a new webkinz...but I'm kinda mean :)
