Webkinz craziness...

is anyone else scouring the stores looking for a particular one? I refuse to pay the unbelievable markup on Amazon or Ebay... what makes these toys great is that they're somewhat affordable! All the area stores by us have "no Webkinz" in the windows. I am searching for a certain dog, the koala and the rainbow rabbit for easter baskets.... which ones are you looking for? any good tips to find them?

I've got no good tips but I can sympathize on the whole Webkinz mania -- my kids (and all their friends) are crazy into the whole thing!!! And I must say, the website is really terrific.

It is crazy here, too. I went to our local toy store and they didn't have any, but they were nice enough to tell me about the American Greetings store in the mall that carries them. They had a great selection! I guess no one knew they had them.

The website is very cool, but the customer service stinks. Our local toy store owner said that people come into her store and rip off the tags, leaving her with a product she can't sell. The company won't take them back as damaged. They could easily print a new tag for very little cost and the Webkinz would be usable, but they refuse, and the business owner is out the money. I guess they can take it as a loss - I am not a business owner and don't really know how that works. I know that the comapny (Ganz) wouldn't give us a new code when we accidentally threw out the tag, but unfortunately, DD7 loves them and they still get my money!

krismom - what dog are you looking for? I bought two for DD for Easter but only plan to give her one - I bought the other since I could find them! If you are looking for Sherbet the bunny, I heard that they were all gone, but I'm not sure!

If you go to the Webkinz site, you can put in your zip code and find nearby stores that sell them. Look beyond toy stores - Hallmark and American Greetings carry them around here. Our local toy store owner also said they sell them at the zoo - I would have never thought to check there!

See if you can be put on a waiting list to be notified. I got a call from our toy store when they came in.

We just got the black lab - he's really cute! Our store got in a shipment of nothing but black labs, and they were gone immediately. I had been on the waiting list for that one since I heard they were coming. He is DD7's favorite!

My sons godmother brought them for my twins 5th B-day in Feb. she had such a hard time finding them, BUT had luck at the local hospitals' gift shop!

Check the Hallmarks that are not in malls. Also, our Science Center has them in their gift shop. I was surprised to see them there.

The rainbow bunny is a limited edition webkinz and I think you will have a very hard time finding any of them now. They have been sold out in all the stores for quite awhile now. My daughter collects them and the bunny was very limited when I purchased hers about a month ago. I live in Virginia and the Koala bear has not shown up here yet. I am on a waiting list for him and the store still has not rec'd their shipment of the Koala yet. It has been crazy here also. They are so popular with all the kids. Good luck in your search. There is an online store I am going to post a link for but they are a little more expensive.

My kids got two from grandma, a bulldog and a unicorn. Although they are cute I haven't allowed them to get online with them.

Sorry I just can't believe that these things are the new tickle me Elmo/Beanie babies.

I didn't think these were all that popular either. When I went to look for a black lab for DD (she loves dogs and found out that black lab was a new arrival) they told me at the store that there is a waiting list for them. We would have been #31 on the list . I decided to keep looking. So far no luck. Figures that DD picks the one that is impossible to find.

My Aunt has a hallmark shop and she is having a hard time getting them in. They are only sending her 1/2 of what she orders. So, while they are selling fast, it also sounds like production isn't able to keep up.

Our local museum sells them (life and science not art).

As a side note, she mentioned that the craze started on the East Coast and is just working it's way out to the midwest.

That's good to know! We are going to Arizona for spring break - maybe we can stock up on Webkinz!

I gues they are the new beanie babies! My girls have two. You are really buying them for the code which stinks. I really don't need another stufed animal but the girls really like going on-line. Is there a way to get the code without buying another stuffed animal? Especially since my girls have been diagnosed with allergies & asthma, we don't need the stuffed things!

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but we don't have very many here in AZ either!! I just learned about these from my DN who loves hers, so I tried to find one for DS for his birthday and could only find 1 store with 11 platypus. My Dsil is finding some over in East Phoenix but not a lot.

Thanks! We don't actually need anymore Webkinz anyway (unless you ask DD7!) - I have already bought one for Easter and she just bought one with her own money. That should keep her busy for awhile. Besides, I hope to be doing other things in AZ, not shopping, but if they sell Webkinz at the Phoenix Zoo, I'm sure DD7 will ask for one!

No you are not the only one. I "help" my dd by winning her money on the quizzy's word challenge and Wacky Zingo when I am angry! lol Oh and I like the matching game.
Around here the best place to find them are the local Pharmacy. You know the no- name mom and pop kind of places. I walked into one and they had every single one you could imagine. As this was our first we didn't "know" how hard they are to find or we would have bought more than one.
Although with this whole good for only a year online thing- I may hold off on buying another ......

My dd's love them and knock wood we have a few hallmarks in out of the way strip malls that carry them and usually have stock. I like that they are at a price where my dd's can buy them themselves with their allowance.

Both stores here have removed the tags and keep them at the registers. When you purchase the webkin you get the tag. Unfortunatly the tags were leaving the store without the webkins
