I have been using Phanfare as a way to share the photos I take at school functions. I was able to use a URL to direct everyone to my gallery but now phanfare is changing. With the new Phanfare I will have to send out invitations to anyone that I want to view the site. This would really be a pain. I liked phanfare because I could let people download the full size pics without forcing them to buy them. I have looked at other sites like Flikr, SmugMug and MyPhoto Album but they all force you to buy the pics if you want them.

Does anyone know of an online photosharing site that uses a URL address and would allow me to let viewers download pics without buying them?

Zenfolio does not require you to buy the pics. I'm pretty sure that the visitor can download the original size pic as well. I'm certain that you can direct people to the site by way of URL as well. It is a great site.

I use Flickr pro,(I think it is available on the free version too) and you can have your friends and family sign up and be contacts and they can download pics.

You can alo set up groups and sets, and share those with anyone, if people do not want to sign up.

with Zenfolio you can allow right click and copy or you can disable it, you can also password protect individual galleries, folders or even pictures..

if you choose to you can set folders up so people may buy pics directly from ezprints or mpix, with the premium account you can also set your own prices for pictures, zenfolio does all the work, they collect the moeny forward the order and they keep 12% for their work, you get the rest...

You can optionally choose to review and approve orders before sending them for fulfillment to a partner lab.

This allows you to replace images with better quality files, and adjust cropping, etc.

if you should decide to use zenfolio you can save 5 dollars by using this code.

Your information about Smugmug is incorrect. You, as a poster, can allow people to download the original sized JPGs.

You can hide and/or password protect galleries, add a personal surcharge for prints, restrict viewing to any of several different sizes, and allow or disallow the downloading of originals. I believe that there are also some watermarking capabilities, but I've never bothered with them.

If you go to my Disney photos on my Smugmug site (which I believe is referenced in my sig), you can see that they are all available for free download.

ot but is it only a disney nono to sell photos with their "icons" in them? ie you can give them but not profit? i'm wondering how it would work with someplace like zenfolio or smugmug where you can order the print, no profit for you but profit for mpix or whoever.

...at least according to the DISBoards it is. They asked me to remove my links. Since purchasing photos was an option on my site they considered it a comercial site.
According to WM Kathy after I disabled the "right-click" and "purchase" options that made it ok to share my site again, here on the boards.

thanks again to smugmug for the ability to do that on my Disney Photo galleries and not have to do it to my whole site.
