the forecast calls for rain a few days, what is the rain like in Jan ?
an all day thing or like the summer it rains for an hour or so

Forecast looks like it is calling for chance of showers. That usually means the potential of some brief showers during the day or evening, usually not long (not even as long or hard as those 30 minute thunderstorms you get regularly in summer). Having gone in January numerous times, you can get those brief showers, you can get all day rains, or you can get no rain at all (even when calling for chance of showers).

We were there Dec. 30-Jan. 3 and the rain was a constant for the first couple of days. Not so much on the 30th but very rainy on the 31st with some showers. One day we were in shorts and 2 days later we were buying gloves as it was 36 degrees in AK for magic hours.

We love going in Jan. but find that we need to pack 2 sets of clothes...one set for warm weather and one set for winter.

Yes, watch the forecast carefully for expected temps. How cold can it get: we were there the first week of January. On the 2d and 3d we had, as the local weathermen kept reminding us, the two coldest days Orlando has seen in 5 years, highs in the lower to mid-40s, lows in the mid-20s (you haven't really experienced WDW until you ride Test Track and Expedition Everest when it is 30 degrees).

It's mid 50's here--Melbourne, east of Orlando--at 12:50 PM on January 15.

I'm wearing shorts and a tee shirt.

Forecast is for continued cool (high 60's - low 70's) temperatures with chances of rain beginning Wed. PM through Monday.

Usually when you get rain in Central Florida this time of year, it's a front moving through. So you get steady rain, sometimes all day -- nothing like the summer thunderstorms, which are sometimes heavy but usually gone in an hour.

It's winter here in Miami, too. It's 70 degrees, so we're all staying indoors and wearing long pants. I have to go out later, so I'll have to start looking for my fleece pullover or my ski parka.

This is our first trip in January. We're going down Fri. eve. after work & return on Tues. I have been tracking both accuweather.com & weather.com for days trying to find something in common between the two of them! They're off from each other by several degrees in most cases. I was really hoping for mid-70's so I could pack lighter and maybe find an hour or two for some pool time - but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen at least until Monday - MAYBE. Monday is still too far away to be sure of. I have to look at the fact that it is supposed to be a high of 25 & a low of 10 here at home while we are gone!!! We are all wearing coats with zip-out linings and I am packing 2 fleece, 2 sweatshirts, 3 reg. weight long sleeves and a couple of t-shirts for ea. of us + am taking 1 pr. of wool socks for ea. of us for nighttime (I get cold easily!). Packed "convertible" pants for both DS & DH (the ones that zip off from long cargo type pants into shorts). I still managed to get all of us into one LARGE duffle and one carry-on!:woohoo: (That's a new record for me!) Here's to hoping for the best!:goodvibes
