Historically the averages are mid 70s for a high and mid/upper 50s for a low. That being said I know we should layer, but I have three boys and for my sanity with packing would you do shorts or mainly pants for bottoms? We will probably do short sleeves with a jacket or vest, but the pant/short thing is throwing me. Our boys are 5,3, and 1 and we usually come when the weather is a tad more predictable. Thanks!

I have a high tolerance for cold (I live in Minnesota) and I don't find shorts tolerable in Florida in December, generally. While the 70s seems warm, there always seems to be a cool breeze that makes the temps feel much cooler. Unless a heat wave is predicted during our December 12-20 trip, we'll be bringing 2 pairs of shorts per person just in case, but otherwise will be wearing pants.

Weather in the south is 'very' unpredictable - can be very warm then, or very cold, and in between. Dec. '10 very cold!! We were there - high 20's nights, 40's with wind days - bottom line - miserable! We wore coats, hats, gloves, scarves and still were cold.

Don't trust weather predictions less than a few days out (if that). They do not know!!!!

You need both. Don't trust the Florida weather forecast for December, even the day before your trip. One year, the forecast the evening before our trip was low 70s for highs all week. We got there, and that was the temperature arrival day, and then they had an unexpected heat wave and the highs were between 80 and 90 with some record highs. We had packed for 72 and we were sweltering in our jeans.

Another year, we got there and it was in the 80s and we wore shorts day and night for 2 or 3 days, then a cold blast came through and by the end of the week we were in jeans, sweaters, coats and gloves all day.

You absolutely never know what the weather is going to be in December and it changes really quickly. It is a pain to pack for that time of year, but you need a little of everything.

We went every year in December from 2008 to 2012 and I don't think we ever had a week that had the historical averages of 70s all week. The weather can be all over the place.

Thanks! This is perfectly and exactly what I didn't want to hear? ;)

We are heading down that week with our 2 littles and I had the same exact thought yesterday while starting to gather clothes! I grabbed some shirts and tanks, sweaters and jAckets but to wear pants or shorts?? Lol. I ended up grabbing 2 pair of just plain jean shorts for my dd and khaki for ds. Are you staying where you have a washer dryer? Maybe just take a pair or 2 per kid and wash them. That's what I plan on doing. My dd is wearing leggings most of the time and ds will wear jeans I guess. Tricky weather

We are going the week before you and I am also stressed. I live in the South and most of our trips to Florida have been on Spring Break and summer months so a December trip is a little off putting when it comes to packing, especially because I do not want to have to buy any additional clothes, especially the expensive ones at Disney. Our suitcases will be a hodge podge of clothes to say the least.

We moved from Michigan a couple of decades ago and I still remember when my sister was coming to visit and we told her to bring a jacket because it will be in the 40/50's at night and that our cold is very moist so you feel it more. Well! She laughed and said we were getting soft etc., needless to say she ended up buying a jacket during her stay:lmao:

We are going around the same time we are packing shorts and only one pair of pants even if it's a chilly morning it's sorts and a sweat shirt here we are in ma and we were our flip flops and shorts until it hits the 40's we don't like cold weather determined to move to the south soon

We were there one year that week and we wore shorts only one day. We needed big coats a few days!!!! We mostly go winter and take a lot more winter than summer clothes. Layers of course are your friend and don't forget to have a hat and gloves. I often stock up on the super cheap stretch gloves as we always tend to loose a few in the parks.

Gloves!?! Oh no! I may need to restrategize.
