Hey y'all! We'll be at Disney the week of Christmas (December 20 - 26) and I'm wondering, should I pack jeans? Shorts? Both? We're from central Texas so we are used to warmer weather. If it's more of a jeans/long sleeve weather situation, I figured I would start shopping now since that stuff is all on clearance. Thanks in advance.

I would pack both. Last time I packed dresses and leggings. The leggings don’t take a lot of room and add a layer. Definitely bring gloves and jackets. You can always buy a sweatshirt to wear but the jackets are harder to find and pricey.

You'll want a little of everything during the winter months.

Shorts, jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, a jacket...

And its likely you'll have to layer because the high may be 80 degrees but it may only be in the 40s/50s in the morning reach 80 at 3pm and then drop like a rock at 5pm.

We have hit some pretty cold weather in December (once it was warmer at home in SE PA :confused3 ). But it can be more temperate too…..it’s very changeable. I agree with the previous posters - pack a little of everything (which can be a pain, but then you won’t need to spend a fortune purchasing sweatshirts and the like once you’re there).

I've been in December when it was 86 or more every day (and humid), and I've been when the high was 55 (and still some humidity which made it feel even colder). Check the weather app about a week before you go and it will give you a good idea on what to pack! And definitely layers.

Bring all of that and more. You could easily have shorts weather one day and winter coat/gloves weather a few days later.

Good moisture wicking undergarmets and shorts with a lightweight "windbreaker" or "hoodie" style top has always served me well. Something small enough to shove in a light weight backpack.

Bring both warm/cool weather attire is a good idea. A little planning goes a long way since I find airplanes tend to vary from too hot to too cold regardless of the time of year. When we were at Disney in May a few years ago with reasonably warm weather, we found most indoor restaurants to be way too cold with AC turned up to max. So even if it is warm outside, indoor places might still need a sweater/jacket to be comfortable.

I recently retired as a NOAA meteorologist and have put together a webpage to help with planning questions like this. December and January are certainly the most variable times of year to be heading to WDW, and your attire could vary from full on summer shorts/T-shirt to full on winter coats. It will be hard to narrow down what you'll actually need for your trip until much closer in. Some links below if you want to check out some of the info I'm working on.

I have been there in every temperature range from the 30’s to the upper 80’s. While you can almost count on cool weather in January and February, December is more of a wild card. A lot depends on what is happening up north and how strong the early winter cold fronts are.

Definitely bring layers. I live here and when staying at Disney in the winter I take a medium weight hoodie and a fleece jacket that I can layer (fleece over hoodie) or wear separately. I bring gloves and a scarf. I bring half long pants and half shorts or capris. I bring one long sleeve shirt, but mostly short sleeve as they will either be worn alone because it’s warm or be the innermost layer. Bring a swimsuit if you like the pools (they are heated). Bring a rain poncho to use not only if it rains, but as a wind blocker on a cold windy day (it will be another layer on top of your jacket).

Our weather tends to cycle in the winter. You get the first blast of freezing weather, then it warms up a little day by day and just when it feels great, the next cold front will come through. Definitely check the weather a few days before you leave to get a good idea of temperatures and rainfall. Unlike our fast moving summer storms, it is not unusual for it to rain for a full day or even a few days in a row if a front is slow moving.

I think you have to watch the weather and then see how to pack. Freezing two years ago, warm last year. Watch the weather and then pack. We are going again over the Christmas holidays at BWV and hopefully we can swim this year again !
