The weather channel is reporting predicted lows of 33 on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24...............brrrrrrrrrr! Should I even be thinking of packing more than two pairs of shorts for the first part of Feb.? Now that I am about two weeks out, I check the weather channel every day. My DH packs enough for two weeks on a one week trip. I can't even imagine how much he will have to bring based on the questionable weather. Anyone else two weeks away but "planning" for packing? I must say that I am somewhat still sane, as I haven't actually started "packing!!"
:fish:

It will kind of depend on your. Personally, I haven't had on shorts since the end of October, and likely won't put them on again until April... but I live down here, and once it hits 80, it's jeans weather.

I would bring one or 2 pairs of shorts, though, because as soon as you don't, you will wish you had. Just bring a few summer things and other stuff to layer over it. You may want to consider a hat. It is amazing how much warmer you will feel with a hat on your head. BTW, the days have been getting up to about 60, and if you are lucky, they will get warmer than that!:)

I am also about 2 weeks away from my trip. I am having the same problem you are! I am going to pack about 2 shorts just in case it gets hot, otherwise I was going to wear jeans and a t-shirt and then just layer with sweatshirts. The weather is so unpredictable!

www.wftv.com for the local Orlando weather. We were wearing shorts last week and hopefully we will be getting back to shorts weather soon. 2 pairs of shorts will come in handy.

for our 3rd winter trip. We'll wear our winter coats to the airport, and pack those cheapie stretchie gloves and hats, just in case.

We'll take jeans, t-shirts, and a couple pair of shorts and long-sleeve shirts, along with several sweatshirts to layer.

The problem we face is that it usually 50-something when we leave in the morning and 50-somethng when we return at night. That often precludes shorts, regardless of how high the temp goes in the day!

Hopefully that 10-day forecast will show a warming trend!

Weather is very hard to predict this time of year, it changes day to day. We often go around now and in a one weeks trip, we can be in jackets one day and be at Typhoon Lagoon the next. You really need a bit of everything. I won't even bother thinking about packing until a week before because of this, you just can't go by the forecasts until you hit into your own week lol

8 days and counting for us!!

After many Jan/Feb trips (and as much as a 30 degree temp. difference in one week) I've come up with a system:

1. Yes! Pack shorts. My legs can stand a little chill in the am. I usually pack about 3-4 pair neutral colors & fabrics like demin, khaki, stone wash, etc.

2. No more than 2 pair jeans (1 pair worn while traveling from the north).

3. A good quality pair of black pants for dinners out (the kind that hides vacation weight gain).

4. Different colors/styles short sleeve tops that can be layered under sweaters, sweatshirts. There has never been a need for tanks, halters and sleeveless shirts during the winter months.

5. Sweater twin sets are great. They're dressy enough for dinner and can be worn as separates during the day.

6. At least 1 hooded sweatshirt

7. Lined windbreaker. I have never packed a winter coat. If it's been cold I will layer a shirt, the sweatshirt and the windbreaker over top.

8. I've packed gloves and a scarf, but I don't recall ever using them.

9. A bathing suit; although there have been many trips that I didn't use it.

we just returned tuesday, and I was so glad I brought my long silk underwearl. Other than thursday, i wore the long sleeve shirt everyday, and the pants all but one day.
Silks are so light weight, you can't even imagine they keep you warm, but they trap your body heat. I'd never take a winter vacation to florida without them. they take no room in the suitcase.
Instead of a heavy coat, i took a water resistant jacket with hood, and a fleece jacket to layer under it.

We even ended up wearing the gloves on sunday during the day, which I never would have guessed. It was cold, but it was the dampness and wind that made it so much worse
If you have sunny skies and cool temps it is a whole different thing.
good luck,
www.weather.com was the most accurate it turned out, although it was still way off on the frequency of rain, and how cold it actually got

I second disgal1 and almost always take my silk underwear. On those days when it's cooler (60 or less) I layer the silk underwear under pants. Helps when the wind blows and it gets "really chilly" (relatively speaking) We now wait until about 2 days before we leave to do "final" Packing. Warmer temp predictions sway the extra pair of shorts or not but generally for 7 days it's 2-4 shorts, 2-3 pants (including the one you wear), 1-2 bathing suits, 4-6 short sleeve shirts, a couple fleeces or sweatshirts, my short raincoat, and of course, the long underwear.

Our present weather is from the pattern moving across the US . And there is 2 more weeks of it left to go.

We are on a warming trend right now, then there will be another cold spell next week, then it will warm again. It will not get" "hot". I wear shorts unless it is below 70 degrees.

We go next week and it's not the shorts which take space in the suitcase, it's the sweatshirts!
