Hey all,

we are leaving in 3 days to go down to WDW and I have checked the weather forecast. It says "Scattered T-storms", what do I make of this?? Does that mean that we can't go as the rides will not be working through that time?? If not, does that mean we can go just wear rain ponchos?? Apparently for about 5-6 days of this weather.. Someone help feeling a little discouraged.... If it turns out that we can't do a lot my hubby will never go again.

Not sure where you are from, but here in the South, scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast almost every day of the summer! We have thunderstorms forecast every day this week - we have had less than an inch of rain all month.

You may or may not get a thunderstorm in the afternoon. It will typically be brief, and it will not be any cooler when it is over! :rotfl2: Outdoor rides will shut down if there is lightning nearby. Most WDW veterans put on a poncho and keep on going, particularly parks like MGM with so many indoor attractions and shows. After a thunderstorm is a great time to go to the parks - many people have left, so there are few lines!

Don't let the threat of showers discourage you. Here's some info on what "scattered showers" means:

http://www.wcnc.com/news/terricolumns/stories/wcnc-072907-krg-inside_wx.b9932db0.html

"When weather forecasters use the term “isolated showers” this means that we expect 20 percent or less of the area to receive rain. “Scattered showers” mean that we are expecting 30 to 50 percent of the area to receive rain. “Numerous showers” means that we expect 60 to 70 percent of the area to receive thunderstorms. When we expect more than 80 percent of the area to get wet, the forecast calls for “showers.” Using numerical percentages in weather forecasting can be confusing because it can mean two very different things. It can reflect the likelihood of rain at your location (probability) or, as stated above, the percentage of the area that storms are expected to impact. This is why we tend to stick to the words that indicate coverage rather than likelihood."

I checked the 10-day forecast for the Orlando area and there are between 30% and 60% rain chances for this weekend and next week.

The good thing about scattered showers is that they don't last long. Pack your ponchos and you should be fine. Most of the rides and attractions at WDW are inside, so they are operational, rain or shine!

Okay, I was not sure what scattered t-storms meant. We are in Canada so we don't get a lot of weather like that. We live close to the border near Ogdensburg, NY. I had ever intention on bringing ponchos and I really hope my hubby enjoys this trip as much as the kids. He was promised many times by his parents to go when he was a kid (even just once) but they never went. He is getting excited and I told him that after it rains is better to go because most people have headed back to their rooms or wherever.

No worries! Unless the forecast is for heavy rain or a hurricane (which it isn't), you will have many more hot, sunny, humid hours that you have hot, rainy, humid hours! It's always a good idea to get to the parks early - it's not as hot, the lines are shorter, and thunderstorms usually (but not always) happen in the late afternoon.

Have a great trip!

That had made my day a lot nicer to know that...

I am doing the happy dance now....getting nervous as this is our first big trip.
