We're going to WDW August 21--27th. Can anyone please tell me what's the weather like? Does it rain? How about bugs?

Its usually hot, and the water parks are jammed but still fun! The bugs are there, just be aware of them and they won't 'bug' you, sorry had too!!! As for the rain, if it does, it's later in the afternoon and not that long... Enjoy your trip~

We went the last week of Aug. last year and it was hot and rained almost everyday, but not for long. It really wasn't too bad, just make sure to drink water and not rush through the parks.

hotter than heck
drink tons of water
rains - but only minutes at a time
did i mention, hotter than heck?

Weve gone that week for the past 2 years. As others have said last year we got the typical afternoon showers. On the other hand the year before it rained almost every day for long stretches of time. And yes its hot, but I like that. ;)

we usually go that week to , last summer we went around the middle, it was the WORST for RAIN and STORMS every day, all day--but that was a 1st, plus it was HOT HOT HOT, and CROWDED. but usually if you take your time and maybe even take a break it will be ok. cause you can still go into the AC places. i would rather be in DISNEY in the HEAT than at home...........

We were there last year at that time. HOT and crowded, but it didn't ruin our trip. Use fastpass as much as you can, and take frequent breaks. Didn't have any problems with bugs, but that may have changed this year. (have read a lot about bug problems this year)

We were also there on those dates last year. I know that heat is intolerable for some people, but I thought the temperatures were very comparable to what we were experiencing in New Jersey before we left! It's not uncommon to have 90 degree temperatures (and above) in NJ in the summer. (And we also get the humidity that everyone complains about.) We were really use to the heat before we left, but still took frequent breaks and didn't try to accomplish too much at once. We did have storms almost every day, but it gave us an excuse to explore the inside of our resort and provided built in down time. The water parks were somewhat crowded, but still manageable. The theme parks were more crowded than I expected, but as everyone says, use Fastpass and realize that Disney (hopefully) isn't going anywhere! You'll have a great time!

Rats! I was hoping the last full week in August (no Labor day) would not be too bad crowd-wise.

We usually go in October and the first week of December and once in September. I'm trying to prepare my kids for the heat and crowds and I keep telling them that is is our 'extra' trip and our October trip is our 'official' trip but I was still hoping it wouldn't be too bad regarding crowds since my sister and niece are coming and it's there FIRST trip to WDW.

What can you compare the end of August to crowd-wise? Like Spring Break? Easter? Winter Break? Christmas? 4th of July? Will it be wall to wall? Will the waits be over one hour a ride?

If we get early starts and use Fastpass, will we be ok?

I'm getting really scared!:scared1:

I was wondering about this also. We're thinking about going 8/18 - 8/25 (we usually go in Feb). We were hoping the only thing we'd have to deal with was the heat. We thought the crowds would be lighter and it would be too early for the love bugs. Are we wrong:confused:

I want to go so bad, but we've only been in Feb, and once in early May and November. Are we too spoiled by the off season?

The crowds were definitely NOT wall to wall! And they don't compare to holiday crowds. It was more crowded than when we use to visit in October, but I've been hearing that October is starting to get busier with all the special events Disney holds at that time of year. The love bugs will be out (at least they were when we were there), but they don't bother anybody. You'll definitely be okay with Fastpass and early entry. We were able to do everything we wanted to and we took everything at a very relaxed pace. We never waited more than 30 minutes for any attraction (and I think that was only for BTMRR). You'll have a great time if you go with the right attitude!

Thanks for the reply flyball, but I didn't know the love bugs would be out that early. We were there in Sept 2000 and the love bugs were out then, so I thought they wouldn't be out in August. I know they don't do anything, but they completely grossed me out, and they freaked out one of my kids.

Oh well, I was trying to sneak in an extra trip this year, but I guess I'll have to wait until Feb '05 to go:(

This is by no means the "scientific explanation," but they're little black bugs that are connected (mating). Not exactly appealing, but not bothersome if you ignore them.
