Anyone done the Disney cruise in mid December? Just wondered what the weathers like, it's the western cruise visitin Key West, Cozumel, Grand Kaymen and Castaway Cay:) It was stifling hot last time on Eastern in April, so i'm hoping it wont be so hot then, I know it can be chilly in Orlando in Dec because we often go that time of year.:santa:

Thanx
Audrey:)

We did the 4 day Bahamian in December, 2004. We had perfect weather - sunny with clear blue skies and temperatures in the 80s. We did experience a cold snap when we got back to Orlando, but it's considerably warmer in the Carribbean.

I loved the Western Cruise - I have no experience of cruising in Dec but I think the weather would be good.

Thanx for your replies, i thought the weather would be better in Dec:)
I have fancied doing the western cruise for ages so i'm very excited!!

We did the 4 night cruise in December last year, we had warm weather (low 80's), but it can easily be pretty chilly in December (low 70's or even high 60's), so you need to pack for every eventuality.

The sea temperature is also pretty cold at castaway cay , and we got as far as paddling.

We are doing the Western Special cruise for Xmas 08 as 4 nights just wasn't enough

As Deb said we were on the cruise in Dec 04, the weather in the Caribbean was lovely. The water temp was fine for swimming in, I seem to remember spending quite some time splashing about.

I'd have thought with it being shallow, that you should find it to be relatively warm at all times, but I never paid attention in Geogrpahy!!

Thanx again, the last time (April 04) we were in Castaway cay it was just soooo hot! I hid under a shade the whole day and didn't even venture out for a paddle:rotfl2: (i'm a red head with very fair skin!) Although i bet my Dh wished he'd stayed in the shade more as well because he went on the banana boat thing and then on a pedalo with my Dd and ended up very sunburnt! "Wear plenty of sun block!" i said, "no i'll be just fine" Dh said, Needless to say i think it was a lesson learned:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Bit like my husband, he makes sure that I am plastered head-to-toe in Factor 250 (you think I joke... ;) ), but always ends up burnt himself...

The funniest time was when we were staying in Naples, Florida. Husband DID have sun protection lotion all over. He was reading a book on one of those "stripey sun loungers" (you know, the ones which are just trips of plastic across a metal frame). He decided to go and dip is feet in the pool and continue reading. About 30 minutes later he asked me if he was burning. I looked up to see that the strips of plastic on the sun lounger had rubbed away stripes of sun protection lotion - so he had burnt in HORIZONTAL STRIPES across his back! It did eventually go tanned, but my husband's skin hold a tan very well and you could see the stripes for the next 6 months! :lmao:

December supposed to be the time to go to the Caribbean - warm, sunny, settled, dry weather: consistently good. That is why most of the cruise ships do the "winter season" in the Caribbean - it is the best place to be. :)

OMG how terrible

:lmao: That's almost the same thing that happened to my Dh only his stripes were on his front:scared1: due to the strapping on the life jecket he had to wear! He didn't really learn his lesson though because when we stayed in Nassau last Sept he got burnt again doing the water slides ay Atlantis with Dd!:rolleyes1
If i had let myself get burnt then i would have been hospitalised! I have a very low tolerance to the sun and the heat, so have a great excuse to heep in the air conditioned cool of the shops/spa's!:rolleyes1

I have done DCL 16 times with a few Western cruises in early January (which is about the same weather as mid December). Twice in January it was warm, not hot so very comfortable and once it was very cold in Key West and very cold on Castaway Cay...the rest of the cruise was fine (we were able to swim, etc.)

Hard to predict exactly what the weather will be like but you can bet it will be cooler than April!!! We love Key West and have spent 5 nights there last year and are doing another land vacation this July for a week.

Here is a link to my online cruise albums with some Western cruise pics....in one of them you can see my girls shivering a bit on CC. Not all my cruises are on there but a lot are.
