Weather in July

I wouldn't stress over it too much, because you never know 100% what is going to happen. As others have said, it usually seems that the mornings will be nice, it will get increasingly hot, it will rain, then it may or may not cool a little bit. We live in Houston, so humidity isn't an issue in Orlando for us (and we get the rain thing in July too). Just because it is pouring at one park doesn't necessarily mean it is at another one. Kind of like earlier this week I got home from work and my kids were going on and on about this horrible rain storm and the power flickering on and off and I hadn't seen a drop of rain downtown where I work.

We went the week of July 4th this year, we were in the parks Tuesday thru Friday and were not rained on at all during the time we were in the parks (not that it didn't rain that week, just that our schedule happened to work out where we missed it). I've been before and gotten drenched every afternoon ... so we just embrace it.

It is about 9:00 am here near Tampa and its already down-poured 3 three separate times since 5:00 am. Right now it looks beautiful and sunny. So just expect the unexpected.

My family and I just returned from a week at WDW and I have to agree with the majority of posters. An afternoon shower can be a welcome event, especially when it cools down the temperature and thins out the crowds. The negatives are when there is lightning in the area, which can close rides and attractions. We were at HS on 7/12 and the Indiana Jones show was canceled because of lightning, which I would not have even considered lightning as a threat to that attraction. The rains on 7/12 kept the pools and rides pools closed most of the night.

The rain on Monday (7/17) was unlike anything I have seen in years. It was a constant, hard downpour. We planned on going to MK during the evening but decided against it. These were the only two days where the rain really negatively effected our plans.

We were at WDW during Tropical storm Debbie in 2012, but it didn't effect us too much. The rain kept the parks empty and the temps down; there wasn't a lot of lightning, so rides operated and the pools were open.

The lightning threat for Indiana Jones show is mostly to the performers who are out in the open, not necessarily the audience.

If you are a weather geek, the rains this week have been harder and a bit more longer lasting due to an upper level low that is augmenting the daily sea breezes the bring the much needed rain to central Florida. And, yes, Orlando sits in the middle of the Gulf side and Atlantic side breezes so although sometimes the rain is more easterly and sometimes more westerly, Orlando area generally gets impacted by either side. Here in Lakeland, this week the rains have been later (around 5PM or so) but extremely heavy with lots of lightning.
