We will be at WDW the first week of December. I've heard that we should pack layers.. Could someone be a bit more specific?

* What's the average morning, afternoon, and night time temps?
* Will we need to bring our winter coats? We're from Ohio and are typically wearing our heavy fall or winter coats if it's in the mid to low 50s.
* Would a short or long sleeve shirt, and a light jacket or sweater work thoughout the day?

Thanks!!

p.s. sorry, I know this is probably asked all the time, but I'm having a hard time with the search function right now.

We have gone the last 2 years, the second weekend in Dec...we live 3 hours south of WDW.

We froze at night. We bought hats and gloves and thick WDW Christmas fleece jackets. We wore shirts and sweatshirts under it. High 30 to low 40 at night and breezy. We noticed alot of visitors purchasing sweatshirts for their families.

In the daytime it was sunny but still cool to me, we wore jeans and long sleeve shirts. Low to mid 60's in the day.

:santa:But that is part of the fun if you plan it right. The temp can be 40s to 70s in day, We have noticed lots of difference each year. My DD was a cast member and said it was 80 the day before we checked in 2 yeasrs ago. They then had a cold snap that morning and it was getting all the way down to 29 in the evening. Kids just arent having fun unless it is warm to them, so you have to bring layers and get lockers or pay for clothing you may not want. I have no clue how far walmart or Target is , but I would not like to disrubt the vacation to go to Walmart.( We always see so many tourists here on a day trip ...and they go to Walmart or K mart!!!! Why?????)

Look for deals at Disney before you go, get them on sale...

When we went in 2004, we could have worn shorts in the day with short sleeve shirts and pants at night, maybe a light jacket. The day we left, a cool front came through and it was cold and would have need long pants, shirts, jackets and possibly gloves. I would probably pack for both types of weather. I would check the forcast on weather.com beforehand. Hope that helps some.

I can't wait. I'll be wearing jeans and sandals but will pack some hats and cheap gloves for the boys. Sweatshirts are a must anyways if we'll be in the parks after sundown. can't Wait !!

While we were there last year Dec 3-9, the temps in the morning were mostly high 50s, then in the afternoon high 60s to low 70s (it might have even been around 80 one day) and then at night 50s again. So, we would wear shorts during the day, then pants and jackets at night. It was really comfortable the whole week.

My DW and I went on our honeymoon from 12/12/04 - 12/19/04 and as you can tell from my avatar, we were cold. My DW had a sweatshirt on and a scarf during the day, and I had a light jacket during the day. Both of those worked until at night we froze! I'm talking mid 30's, definitely not what we thought Florida should be. My DW actually got the sniffles/cold while we were there, which put a damper on our honeymoon. My recommendation: jeans/pants during the day and maybe a light jacket, but at night dress warm! Better to be too warm and take a layer off than to be too cold and have to miss something because you're miserable.

What's so funny about the responses is where the posters hail from. Those of you who live in the south say it is cold border frigid. Us, northerners, see it as it's a heck of a lot warmer down there then here!!!!! You could go to the weatherchannel.com and put in orlando. Then you can get the average temps for that time of year. I've read many threads about the weather in early Dec. Most people seem to agree that it is around 60 - 70 degrees during the latter morning into the early evening. Earlier and later it can range from 40 - 60.

We are also going in early Dec and plan on bringing everything thing from shorts to jackets. We will bring a few of everything and I know I'll end up doing laundry. We're going for 10 days so I was bound to do it anyway.

from Accuweather.com
Typical weather in December is:
Normal High: 73°F
Normal Low: 53°F
Normal Average: 63°F

If you click on the link above and then click on December, it breaks it down by day.

Fwiw, we have been in December and January and both times the weather was pretty cool. We're from the NW so it's not like we're not used to cold weather. I agree though, often as soon as it hits about 65-70 around here, you'll see some people in shorts - but not me! lol.

The year we went in December we were told it was "unseasonably cold" by a local person so you can look at averages and "typical" weather but you still might find yourself needing some cold-weather clothes. A couple of years ago we went in January and the first three days the temps were in the 80's and it was beautiful and then a cold front hit, there was a wind chill factor and we had a high of about 40 degrees for a few days. We had only brought very light jackets and hardly anything really warm and ended up having to buy our then 2-yr old ds a winter jacket at Epcot (for $49, ouch) and dh and I held out until we got to a tourist gift shop off property to buy ourselves some inexpensive fleece pullovers to help keep us warm. Well never again! This time I'm packing some pants and warmer tops to layer up in. Like a pp said better to have to take a few layers off because you're too warm than freeze because you didn't bring enough warm clothes to wear. I hate being cold. That is why I vacation in Florida, lol. ;)

hth and see ya around the parks in a few weeks. ;)
