Can any locals tell me how to prepare for the weather in early/mid April? I have been to San Diego 2x and Long Beach and DLR once and all times were in April. But I feel like we had different weather each time. What is the 'norm' and what sort of clothes do you need? Is it warm enough to swim?

Thank you!

I think you answered the question yourself--the weather can be different every time. Generally speaking it depends on the prevailing wind patterns. If the winds are coming onshore off the ocean then it'll be cool and damp. On the other hand if the winds are blowing offshore from the Northeast or East then it can be extremely hot and dry. So as you may guess the weather can change drastically within just a few days time. And with this being an El Nino year all bets are off as far as precipitation goes.

Locals generally don't go swimming in April unless there's a heatwave.

We have been in April the last 6 years.. and have had different weather each time... we layer clothing.. Im from WA so you would think anywhere south of us would be warm , but not for me.. I take fleece and warm clothing. never swim and always wear long shirts etc.. my family on the other hand wear shorts and swim.. (fools) one year we had a heat wave and it was sooooo great.. lol
they were not so happy... never please everyone hey.. last two years it has rained at least two days of our trip.. but it didnt last and it wasnt like in the PCW. cold and bone chilling

I wouldn't make any assumptions from the last few years when it comes to the weather next year. If El Nino is as bad as its predicting it will be then it will be a totally different ball game compared to years past. I would wait to figure out weather things as it gets closer to April.

You sound like me. I prefer the warmth. I *love* heat waves LOL!! In fact, my favorite time to go to WDW is in September when it is brutally hot. We went last year in Dec, and I almost froze to death. Not fun!

Yeah, I am not packing my clothes yet by any means. Just trying to get an idea of what it might be like. If cool is more norm, I just need to prepare myself for that ;-)
