Weather and crowds October 14-22

Depends on what part of the country you are in affects whatkind of holiday it is. To most its just another shopping day for sales.

Stupid question - when is Columbus Day this year? Is it a holiday in the US? (I'm British BTW).

I'm assuming the Parks are very busy this day and weekend before?

Monday, October 9

Hi,

Anyone know what the weather is usually like in mid October? We are going from the 14th to the 22nd and I don't know whether to skip the shorts and stick to jeans or not.

Also, does anyone know how crowded it it is during this time? Is it unbearable?

27 days until WDW!! :yay:
We arrive on the 15th and I hope the crowds are low. We were there 4yrs ago on our honeymoon Oct.27-Nov3rd and it was empty. But this golf thing I am hearing about does make me worry.

I was actually hoping that since this is the week after Columbus Day that we would get lucky with the crowds and that they would be low. Keeping my fingers crossed!

We will be there 10/15 -21

Well I don't want to burst anyones bubbles, because it won't be anything like July, or Christmas, but many local schools have off this week. We were there last year at this time, and will be back again this year. It wasn't unbearable, but it wasn't all walk ons like it is in September and January-Mid Feb.

Well that stinks. We go this time of year becasue it's not crowded and now people are saying because of the school breaks it may be. Fall breaks?.. Where were they when I was a kid, didnt they just start school? I know I sound like a baby but I dont care..lol. STAY HOME, at least till I have ridden all the rides... Just Joking. Unless you will stay home, then thanks.

Like I said its in no way PACKED. Its just a little more crowded than it used to be at this time. Went to MSSHP last year during this time....now that was busier than I would have liked.

By the way, no, my kids didn't just start school. By October 15th they'll be in for 2 and a half months (Started Aug 2)

Hey, I still will be in WDW and going to MNSSHP, so it isnt all bad..lol. Better there alittle crowded, then here empty.

Do you know where to find a calendar for this sort of stuff? I checked Orange County calendar and it says holidays 12-13 but nothing past that?

We were there last year over the Columbus weekend and by Tues the place really started to clear out. We did just fine using the touring plans in the UG. But let me tell you it was HOT HOT HOT and HUMID, HUMID, HUMID!! I was very disappointed I thought it would be cooler for that time of year, we ran out of clothes and had to wash at the resort because we'd be dripping wet in sweat when we went back for our mid day break. Jeans, ha!! Have a good trip.

I would imagine you'd have to look up every district in the state individually, which would be a PITA. I'm sure people who plan for a living like TGM do this, but its probably timely. Perhaps we at the DIS can start a thread were people post all their school breaks and then some one can plug it into a calander that we can post.

It something I would consider doing. If you guys think its a good idea.

Oh yeah I forgot to add

The Nemo Preview will bring in lots of DVC members and AP holders from 13-15th

Honestly, I am not worried at all about the crowds. We were there from August 7-11 and we did just fine. touring plans dot com had the crowd levels at 8's and 9's during that time and I guess we were lucky because we had very little waits. Now for the time period of October 15-21 the levels are down to 5's, 6's, and 7's. I have been there during the Funai Classic and didn't find much impact at all on the crowds.

I guess it's all in how lucky you are or how you plan your trip to avoid the heaviest crowd times.

We went in 2004 around that time, after columbus day and during the Funai Classic and the crowds weren't that bad at all, i think the longest line we waited on was for Peter Pan if you could belive that. It was hot too and very nice at the night time. We are heading down again the 14th to the 22nd so hopefully we will have the same experience as we did last time!

It is so hard to determine how the crowds are going to be at any time. I went for a long time in Feb before the spring breaks started and was practically the only one in the parks. This year in Feb, I hit a cheerleaders competition and was overwhelmed by the crowds (and the incredibly loud cheerleaders that seemed to follow me everywhere!).

For me, no matter how crowded it is going to be I will enjoy myself because I will be at Disney!! :cool1:

Last year we went in Oct during the end of FUNAI and the following week. It started out quite hot, but then Wilma came through and it was very cold! I think the weather is very variable. Crowds were moderate, in my opinion. Some rides were walk-on, but most were 10-15 minute waits. You didn't really need to use fast passes. This year we are going for a week beginning on Columbus Day wknd, so hopefully it won't be too too bad. (Can't help it--that's when the vacation week was assigned. We only get to pick the month.)

I've noticed that trend with a few states. My cousin moved from NY to TN about a year ago. Her oldest started school in August but ended in May. Here in NY, we start the Wednesday after Labor Day and end by mid-June.

My DS4 just started Pre-K about 2 weeks ago, so his first week long break won't be until December. We are going down 10/25-11/1, although Daddy will be there from 10/21-10/25 for a conference at the Swan & Dolphin.

I'll be there 10/11-10/18. Last time I went in 2002 from 10/5-10/12 and the crowds got heavier as each day passed to where on the last day Splash Mountain's wait was 2 hours! But before that I went in October 1997 (forget what days) and it was hardly crowded at all. Also went between X-mas and New Years in 2000 and it didn't seem as crowded as October in '02. Just depends on the day and people's whims, I guess.

Also remember holidaymakers from UK will be there in force, as schools have a 10 to 14 day break from around 20th Oct, depends on where you are.

We are there 7th to 28th Oct, and Oct now is the 3rd most popular month to go to Florida, for UK people according to my TA, behind, May and August!

We have taken 3 weeks, to try and spread the time out, to really SEE the parks.

Does this start Oct 20th or end?

We were at Disney last year around this time, the week after Columbus Day, and it was hot and humid, around 90 degrees each day. We did get a shower one afternoon lasted about an hour, this made the air more humid.

As far as crowds went they were very managable, most rides were walk-on, maybe a few of the popular rides had a 10 minute wait.

The only park where we say crowds was Epcot.
