Weather and crowds in mid-August?

Okay, as I'm reading some of these threads I'm beginning to wonder if we're nuts to go to DL in mid-August (which is our 10th anniversary and works out best for my job). Any comments on the park (weather, crowds, rides, etc.) during that time would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It will probably be very hot in August, but it's more of a dry heat in SoCal, instead of the thick humidity you'll find in Florida during that time. So it's a little more bearable, IMO. I'm sure it will be moderately busy because of the summertime crowds, but nothing too horrible.

Since you are going in the Summer, most rides should be open and the most shows going on. Also there will be later hours.

I agree with everything said by Firefly. We were there last August and it was hot, but not as hot as August in WDW. I have bad allergies and found that in CA because there is no humidity, I didn't take my meds as often as I had to in FL.

When you say it is hot at DL in August exactly how hot do you mean?? I notice that all of the previous replies are from people that live further north than Anaheim so their opinion of hot might be different than mine.

We will be at DL in August too but we will be leaving Texas where it will be 100 degrees with high humidity. I assume the Anaheim heat will still be better than here. Am I right?

I live about 30 miles south of DL and when we say August is hot, we mean about 85-90 degrees - and dry. It is not too bad unless you are standing in a long line in the sun without shade. Florida in April is more unpleasant than Anaheim in August. Of course, there are fluke weather spells when it is hotter, but that is usually in early September. Take lots of water and have FUN!:D

I guess we had a fluke August last year! We went the second week of August for 5 days, where the lowest high temp was 95 degrees and the hottest day was easily over 100 degrees.

In addition, skin burn is very common in Southern California, almost deceptively so. You aren't aware of it until it's too late. A typical 90 degree August day in the sun in Anaheim is more dangerous than the same 90 degree day in San Jose, California (near where I live).

I went in August once...never, ever again. It was nearly 100 the whole time. I don't do heat well at all. In addition, it was very crowded that time of year.

I go in February....65 to 70 degrees...no people, no lines...perfect vacations! ::yes::  :hyper:

Oh, I totally agree with whoever said allergies are better in Anaheim. Wow! Every time I go to Southern Cal, I get very healthy, regardless of the time of year. The thing is, I have fibromyalgia, and even THAT is better. Something about that dry air is really good for the health! :sunny:

August in So Cal is generally over 90 unless you are right near the beach, often over 95, and sometimes over 100. Humidity is very low compared to much of the country, though not to those who live in Arizona! The best part, as far as I'm concerned (a native Angeleno who lived 3 years in NYC and visited New England in the summers), is that the evenings cool off beautifully. In other places it tends to stay hot and humid right into the night, but not here; it almost (no absolute guarantees) always drops to 70-75 or so and is just wonderful. Rain is always a slim possibility, but not too likely; if it happens, it is likely to be a one-afternoon kind of thing.

We went mid August in 2002 and found it comfortable in the mid-80's. No humidity! The crowds were manageable on the weekends when we went. I suspect during the week would be even better. Go in August and have fun! I would do Disneyland in August anytime. WDW well that would not be as fun in August!

I have to agree with you about the sunburn sneaking up on you. The last time we were there it was June and my husband got such a bad burn. (His skin isn't that fair either) We didn't realize it till it was too late. Please bring sunscreen and don't just put it on the children.

I'm going to jump in here, though I haven't been to DL yet and will go in July.

Last summer (early July) we had a family get together - outdoors. We live in Canada. In our group was one person visiting from San Jose, one who had only been in Canada from San Jose for a few months, and one (family) who lived in San Jose for years and now in Texas:

They ALL complained about the heat and humidity in CANADA!! We were floored! (OK our summers have been beastly the past two years... 80 degrees is a "cool" day. We've had 2 - 3 week stretches of 90-95 degree heat with humidity to the point that our shirts are soaked just from sitting still, inside with fans going full blast)

I'm looking forward to 80-90 and dry heat... hopefully that's what we get in July. That's what our summers used to be like (90 was actually very rare) and I love it. Oh, and around here sunscreen goes on before you get dressed and is reapplied every few hours. I learned the hard way...
