So I have read that white at a shower is a no-no based on white is reserved for the Bride...does that go for slacks too? I have a shower at a restaurant (11:30 a.m.) the last weekend of April. I'm not concerned with the no white until after Memorial Day thing..but I have a nice coral blouse that looks pretty nice with the white slacks so not ALL white. I don't want to wear a dress/skirt as just not my thing (but will for wedding) and my dress slacks are all dark (grey, black, brown)so seem dreary for April~ and REALLY don't want to spend on an outfit at this time. SO...is it a big goof to wear white to a shower or has that gone by the way side like so many other etiquette rules?:confused3

I never heard that before. Is the bride the type who would be upset over something like that? I'd wear the white unless you know for sure she'd even care, then I'd go with the grey.

I'm not much a fashion diva or fashion rule folloer. If it's comfortable I saywear it!

I didn't know about the no wearing white to a shower. I'd wear it if I were you. Now for a wedding I will not pick out an all white dress to wear but have been to weddings where women wear white dresses.

I know that wearing white at a wedding is a no-no, however I have never heard that for a shower. Your outfit sounds lovely, and I doubt anyone would be offended by white pants. All eyes will be on the bride anyways :)

not a white dress, white slacks to the shower. The Bride is my DD's friend and our neighbor, very awesome girl . I just don't want to step on her special moments like the shower by doing something stupid . Y'know..I don't want to be the one that the other's say "How could she NOT know you don't wear white to a shower etc". Been a long time since I have been to one.

I knew you meant wearing the pants to the shower, I just meant if you know for sure that the bride to be would be upset about that then go with another choice. I'm betting she wouldn't care, and nobody else would even notice. :)

At one time wearing slacks to an event like a bridal shower would be frowned upon, most of the "fashion" norms are just outdated. Wear what you want and if people really care that you wore white pants before Memorial Day, they probably aren't people you want to hang out with anyway.

Never heard of not wearing white to a shower. I might not simply because April can still be winter where I live. But if it's a nice spring day, why not?

I might be old fashioned (and young) but no. I would never wear white to anything bridal related, unless I was the bride, not even white shoes.

Neither would my friends and family.

I doubt it will be a problem, but if you feel uncomfortable about how you might be perceived by wearing white, choose something else.

Absolutely appropriate outfit. Anybody who would flag white slacks for such a petty reason is/was/or will be a bridezilla or deserves to spend a great deal of time with one.

thanks all...I guess my white slacks/coral blouse will be the plan. Our house is 20 years old and the "need to fix this now or it's gonna be trouble" repair budget pretty much takes every spare dollar so I REALLY do not want to spend on any clothes just for an event a few hours long. I looked up what a proper cash gift amount is these days and :faint:. Thank heaven's DS suit is new and fits him, as well as DH~however, I'm going to have to fork out for a dress and shoes so NOT looking forward to that( I mentioned I don't care to wear dresses, right? :rolleyes1) but I only have 2 dresses and they are not exactly in fashion, and one is all black. Not exactly festive for a July wedding.
