Wearing skirts in the parks - comfortable summertime option?

I have worn skirts at the parks. I usually wear shorter ones if I do. (not too short though). I think really long one could get in the way. You might find that skirts are easiest at Epcot or Animal Kingdom (JMO). There arent as many rides that you have climb in and out of. The only ride I remember not liking when I had a skirt on was Space Mountain becasue the way you are seated your knees are up high which can be tricky in a skirt. :)

I usually wear shorts at the parks, but skirts are a nice option so you dont have to wear shorts everyday. I am going late August so I think capris will probably be too hot for me. :flower:

I am not a skirt/dress person at all. However, I LOVE my Gloria Vanderbilt skorts I found at Kohls. I am a short person and these skorts fit me perfectly. They definately look like a skirt but with full shorts underneath. I plan on packing them with me for my July vacation. I wish I was taller so I could wear what you describe (the long flowy hippie looking skirt). I would wear that if I could. Sounds like it would be cool and comfortable. :sunny:

I bought the exact same ones! I just love them. I wore capris last year, but determined that since I am also "height deprived" (have short stocky legs), the capris weren't very flattering. I look better in shorter shorts, but the skorts are so cute, they look just like a short skirt, but have the shorts under them, unlike the other kind of skort that looks like a skirt in front, but shorts in the back. I like these new ones so much better! No chafing problems either (:

Glad I found this thread as I was planning on wearing my short sport skirts to the parks...never thought about the getting on and off the rides!!

Just a quick question regarding skirts. I like wearing them, but usually wear flipflops with them. However, my plan was to wear lace up shoes (athletic tennis shoes) and I don't think that would really look right. I feel like flip flops wouldn't give me enough support and my feet would be killing me after a few hours of heavy walking.

So for those of you that do the skirts (knee length), what type of shoes do you wear with them?

Jen

I personally have done both:

flip-flops I have harshly learned tend to irritate where they wrap around the foot by the end of the day. support wise I have never had an issue wearing (Old Navy) flip-flops. But they do look good with a knee length skirt. :flower:

lace-up sneeks would be quite comfy and I think they'd look just fine as well. plus the sneeks could kind of give you a cute sporty look with the skirt :cool1:

personally, I'd bring both with you, but my vote is on the sneakers; because as long as you're comfortable (inside and out) it doesn't matter what it looks like :wizard:

Skorts are a combo of shorts that have fabric in the front & back to make them look like a wrap skirt. :goodvibes They can save embarassment when climbing in & out of rides. :o
Thank you!!! I can't say I've come across them here but then again its not something I've gone looking for.

For the parks we have here, on the Gold Coast, and weather is similar to Florida, I wore a knee length, denim skirt, or even a mini denim skirt (high fashion item last summer) or a knee length skirt made of similar material to board shorts (which was great because it dries really quickly when wet), or 3/4 pants, in board short material, or just normal board shorts (another high fashion item last summer and the summer before). It really just depends on what you find comfortable walking around all day in. Personally, in the summer I'm a skirt kinda girl, and for me, I worry more about it getting wet rather than ease of in and out of rides.
As for foot wear, I swear by birkenstocks, or even a decent pair of flip flops (to use the American term!!!!) or a pair of light casual sneakers I just got a pair of Puma ones, and they have velcro rather than laces, and are less bulky and would look great with a short or skirt in the summer. And they are extremely comfortable. My tip for testing out foot wear would be to where them around the house and/or shopping for the day and see how you go and you'll have an idea of how you might go in the parks wearing them, i.e. walking up and down the aisles or the supermarket and in and out of the car etc.

I wore Nike Ceso flip flops with my skorts/skirts. As a matter of fact, wore them with everything for the 8 days we were there this past June. Never once wore the tennis shoes I packed.

Loved the Nike's so much, came back home and bought three more pair in different colors, and some for my dds. The tops are made of neoprene so they dry quickly (important in those FL rains) and the bottoms were cushy with a touch of arch support. Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn in all my trips to WDW.

For me, being at WDW is all about comfort, not necessarily fashion. So wear your skirts and have a great time!

Just wanted to let everyone know that JC Penny has Skorts on clearance for $10 each.. They are really cute and the back looks like a skirt not shorts.

I bought 4 pair :cool1:

Just wanted to thank everyone who mentioned skorts. I inherited my dad's short, stocky legs and have always stuck with pants. Tried shorts on our cruise last year and have a picture with Stitch and it's not a pretty sight. Have NEVER been a skirt gal... but while at WalMart the other day saw a skort, tried it on - and fell in love. Wore it on our trip to Pittsburgh and DH complimented me, so went back and got 4 more at WalMart (had to try 4 stores, as they were on end-of-season clearance!).

I am SO pumped for our trip now!

I just got a really cute cotton jersey dress from Eddie Bauer's end of season sale that I plan to wear at WDW in a couple weeks. It's an easy one piece, cool, comfy & casual way to dress at the Parks. The only problem is no fannypack for me with a dress. It'll be a little string backpack instead I guess.

I couldnt do skirts in the theme parks too risk on the rides  I wear shorts and I have one skort which is nice.

I second the Nike sandals. I tried on a few and really like the kind I bought. They are blue with neoprene and the backs velcro on and off to convert into flip-flops. They are as supporting as Nike sneakers to me. I like sneakers, but they just get too hot in warm weather and not so great on water rides. I wish they had other colors! Seven years ago I wore a nice light dress to Epcot and wore keds. BIG mistake. Not enough support and I got a huge blister on the bottom of my right foot. OWIE and ruined the rest of the trip.

I refuse to wear shorts! No matter what I wear, they always creep up in the middle and I hate that and husband hates that I'm miserable in them and I'm always adjusting and fussing with them. (I don't know you people, but I have very um, "plush" legs).

Skorts, well, they have the same problem for me. I've tried a few on our weekend walks to Venice Beach, but I don't think they would make it for me for an all commando day at a WDW park.

Now on this Glide stuff. Does it moisten the skin? Would it show through thin capris like a lotion? Would it also work for skin in sandals (husband has one tiny spot where his weekend sandals rub a bit). Would it make the skin, er, um, well, sweaty?

I tend to wear capris but since we are going to WDW in a few weeks (less than three-whoooo!) I fear the heat.

I love skirts. I wear longish ones that hide my legs yet are light enough for air to circulate. I am also a fan of pantaloons that I wear underneath. These are satiny slips that are split like pants.

I am so HAPPY that I am not alone in this thread, too!!!

I'm a hetero married male and I am planning on wearing skirts to DW June 06 just for the reason mentioned by several here "comfort". not flowery or lacy, they actually look like my supplex hiking shorts just one leg. :woohoo:

Go for it, I'm sure you'll look great and be very comfortable.

I love this thread! Thanks for the ideas and tips; I am never satisfied with shorts, but I've always worn them to WDW anyway. This year, I'll be wearing the skorts for sure. I'm also going to check into the $10 model at Penney's!

One other thing that I bought to wear this year - some seersucker capris. I know that sounds nerdy, but they're really pretty cute, and very lightweight. I think they'll be cool, dry quickly, and look better on my short, stubby legs than the miserable shorts. I wish I could wear the skirts, but I think the chaffing thing would affect me...

If you will allow a male to make a quick observation. I have read through this thread and have heard over and over about comfort. I understand that and am totally supportive. However, when the topic turned to look nice, unflattering, etc. I stopped understanding.

Any park is anything but a beauty pageant. Those that are self conscience about how they look are usually the ones that didn't need to worry about it. While you're there look around. There are some sights to see. If you sacrifice comfort for style I don't understand how that can possible enhance the time spent at the parks. I wouldn't consider wearing sandals (men's) to the parks because they would wear a hole in my foot by the end of the day. The last thing I would want to do is have my fun altered because I was in pain. I personally am overweight and I wear shorts and sneakers and frankly couldn't care less what a group of people that I don't know and will, probably, never see again, think I look like.

Moral of the story from a man's perspective...wear what is comfortable and don't concern yourself with your overall appearance. No one is really paying attention to the extent that it matters.

I love wearing skirts in Disney, cotton or denim. The best are the A-line skirts, not tight but not too flowy.

I absolutely agree...when I'm at the parks, it's all about ME! :rotfl: As long as you don't have parts showing that are supposed to be covered up, who cares? :teeth:

I was glad to see this thread. My DD and I only wear dresses and skirts. All the time. So there was no question what we would wear at WDW. We try to go for cotton a line skirts or even light weight denim. We either wear keds style sneakers or flip flops. My dd will try crocs this year when we go in June. I have always believed that skirts are much cooler.

Also for chaffing, Monistat has a wonderful chaffing cream that works really well.

SO I say SKIRTS ALL THE WAY. :cool1:  :Pinkbounc :jumping1:
