Wearing PJs to Walmart

You have hit the nail on the head. It is the idea that if someone gets out of bed in pyjamas and wears the same pyjamas all day then they are presumably wearing the same undergarments (maybe none?), or perhaps not washing, brushing teeth etc., that makes me question their personal hygiene. Changing outfits suggests clean clothes and a wash.
I think that's a viewpoint but isn't necessarily a portrayal of how things have changed over time. Things have gotten more casual in terms of apparel which it has been steadily over the years (even before the pandemic).

It might be of interest for those talking about workout attire to look at the episode from Netflix's show Explained entitled Athleisure. It's interesting to see how clothing has changed in terms of fit, material, design, etc.

Back to the PP's comment. I took their comment NOT to be about whether they shower before going out but rather they wear shorts and t-shirts to bed for their pjs. To majority of people t-shirts and shorts are considered appropriate. Therefore the person was saying what they consider their pjs would be seen at Walmart/out and about and it was up against an objection to wearing pjs out and about. That's at least how I read their comment.

I have worn like oh bottoms and at shirt at a store after I had dd because I had stitches and I wasn’t going to wear anything that would irritate them and I didn’t give 2 thoughts about it.

Why care what strangers think at the grocery?

Oddly enough I am watching the ending of the Stepford Wives movie

I’m a proponent of let’s all dress ourselves as we choose. I absolutely do not care what anyone wears and rarely see anyone that is dressed in any way noteworthy enough to get a second look. And most often if I give a second look, it’s envy or admiration rather than WTH.

As far as yoga pants, those are normalized as everyday wear in most places these days. I think most outrage at those has passed. BTW, my opinion on those is the same as everything else.

Noooooo. Just no.

Same for yoga pants and other obvious workout clothes.

It doesn't take that long to pull on a pair of jeans and shirt.

It's a business transaction and disrespectful to the store personnel who are there to serve you. Implies they don't deserve a customer who appears respectful of their effort.
The only no here is that jeans=respectful

Seriously??? My clothes/appearance have nothing to do with how respectful I am towards another person unless said clothes has inappropriate words/designs on them. Its about how you treat others not about how you are dressed.

I don't even like to wear pajamas downstairs, let alone out of the house. I get dressed as soon as I'm up/showered.

If other people want to wear pajamas out in public, it doesn't bother me at all. I don't know if they're doing it out of fun, laziness, or have been up with a sick kid all night and are beyond caring. So long as their outfit covers the basics, it's all good.

I would not because I would feel awkward, but if other people do, I really don't care one way or the other. I occasionally work in a high school and many of the kids go into school with pajama pants and slippers. Honestly, I would rather see that than see people dressed provocatively in clothes that are too tight, too low cut and too short. I know I know.....I sound ancient.

I see yoga pants often, I never got the notion that they would be considered inappropriate for casual wear.
I haven't checked the history on this, but I wouldn't be surprised if jeans were once considered "inappropriate" at one point in the past. And now, they're as common as sunshine and raindrops.

Accept yoga pants, or be left behind in history's natural progression in the ever-growing spectrum of casual wear. We're not Amish, yo.

why does it matter what people wear? aslong as there not covered in pee or poop. I could not care less. We dont know folks issues or circumstance for wearing what they are. These full pajama suits are kinda fun to wear, and let me tell you no one sleeps in these. They are lounge clothes.

Rock what you want! Life is to darn short to care what others think.

Haha, I haven’t owned jeans in over 15 years! Not to confuse things too much, but my yoga pants aren’t for working out — they’re for making myself presentable enough to leave the house. I work out in my pajama pants. ::yes:: I also don’t consider buying potato chips and toilet bowl cleaner to be a business transaction, nor do I think store employees are there to serve me. Assist maybe, if I need it, but mostly I just want them to leave me alone. I think you and I have very different ideas about what it means to go to the grocery store. :scratchin

I always use the self checkout so I rarely interact with anyone when I am there. 😆
