Wearing glasses on rides

No one in my family ever had to deal with this until now. My 6yr old boy just started wearing glasses this past year...is he okay wearing them on all the rides? Would you recommend getting a strap thing or taking them off on any rides? He wants to get on everything

I have never had a problem wearing my glasses on any rides, though admittedly I don't do the big coasters. But as long as they are on his face (not perched on top of his head like my DH does with sunglasses), he should be fine. If they are loose and you are concerned about them falling off, use a strap, but I wouldn't say it's necessary.

Agreed. He should have no problems wearing them on rides. If you want to be really sure, then get a strap for them.

I wear a strap on my glasses on the bigger roller coasters at parks like Universal, Six Flags, etc but I've never felt like I've needed one on any rides at WDW, even the roller coasters. The wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon WILL knock glasses off your face though.

It couldn't hurt to have a strap if it will make you feel better. I wouldn't take the glasses off, though. That can increase motion sickness for some people.

My son wears a strap at water parks, and he takes them off for Roller Coasters, esp Rockin Roller Coaster

For most rides I leave my glasses on. The only rides I usually take mine off for are RnR, ToT, EE, BTMR, and Space. I think I had to hold them on during portions of Dinosaur. My glasses are usually on the loose side and that is really the only reason I take them off for BTMR, Space and EE.

I agree with the PP that you can always get a strap if you are afraid he might lose them.

My son and I wear our glasses on all the rides without a problem. One time, however, I lost a contact lens on Space Mountain.

My daughter has Down syndrome with glasss and hearing aids. We usually take off both on fast rides. It makes her and us more comfortable.

Generally he should be okay- especially as he isn't likely to go on the biggest thrill rides.

But he is a small child, and might be tempted to play with them at a less than ideal moment. In which case the cost of a strap might be worthwhile when compared with the cost of replacing the glasses, even if the risk is small.

There are plenty of cases where sunglasses and hats have come off during rides.

Oh, if he is tall enough for Kali, I'd consider a strap for sure.

Exact same situation here. I wear them on rides, but I'm not much for roller coasters either.

He is tall for his age and loves thrill rides. This will be the first year he can get on EE and RnR and he is beyond excited. I think I'll get him a strap because his glasses are too expensive too lose.

My son occasionally likes to take his glasses off on rides but doesn't like to wear a strap. He brings his hard glasses case and carries that in his (or my husband's) cargo shorts big side pocket. This has worked well for him for several years.

My daughter has never lost her glasses on a ride, but she found that she was worrying too much about losing them. She is too nearsighted to ride without them. She felt much better once we ordered a $5 strap from her eye doctor. It was comfortable enough for her to wear all day.

I am totally paranoid about losing my glasses on RnR. Other than that I never give them a second thought. Usually I take them off and stick them in a pocket on RnR.

My dd started wearing glasses when she was 4. She went to wdw for the first time when she was 5.....we always had one of those loose ties on her glasses. the ones that slip over the earpieces and then go around behind your head. They are loose so they don't bother the child, but the glasses aren't going anywhere either.
My dh and I also wore glasses...and used the straps as well. Never had an issue with the glasses on the rides though. Just used the straps as a safety measure....just in case.

We had got complacent about not worrying about wearing glasses on any of the rides after several years of no problems. Until this year...

Universal still hasn't found my son's glasses 2 months later. After all the trips to the lost and found, the trip back to our Disney resort mid-day to pick up a spare pair and numerous phone calls (many after we were home and therefore long distance) we will be adorning ourselves with straps again. Granted, Rip Ride Rocket is no BTM, but it just isn't worth the hassle.

If you don't like straps look for a longer cord type made for sunglasses that secures tightly to the arms.

I use to take my glasses off for all the rides especially RnR but don't anymore as I find the G-force glues them to your face.. But When I did Ihad a case which I could then put them in a pocket so I could put them back on right away as walls and doors are closer then they appear

DH has worn glasses on every ride for the past 10 years - he's had no problems but it does make me nervous!
