For those of us who wear glasses - which rides do you wear yours on? (Thinking about roller coasters, not rides like It's A Small World or Star Tours). Obviously there are some rides were it is not possible to wear them - Rock 'n' Roller coaster springs to mind - but are there any you chance them on?

I last visited in 2001, and I wore my glasses on BTMRR, and they were fine. I would really like to wear them on Splash Mountain but am not sure of the effect of the drop at the end. Contact lenses are not an option (I just want to scratch my eyes out they are soooo painful).

Just interested in hearing people's views! Any suggestions welcome :)

I don't wear glasses myself, but I've read on the DIS here that some people NEVER take off their glasses and don't have a problem :confused3:.

DH wears his on everything except RnRC. He doesn't want to chance them falling off during the inversions.

I'm lost without my glasses (think Velma from "Scooby-Doo"), so I bought an inexpensive strap for my glasses and wore them on BTMRR, Splash, ToT and Test Track without incident (haven't done RnRC, EE, or anything "wilder," but I trust the strap would work for those, too). The strap also helped keep my regular glasses in place so I could wear the 3-d glasses comfortably for the 3-D movie attractions.

I wear them on Test Track - really its just like being in a convertible...

I wear them on Splash but usually take them off for the drop...my bag has a zipper compartment I can stash them in easily.

I don't wear them on BTMR but I don't know why.

I don't do ToT but I am sure that would not be a problem and I don't do RnR but I would take them off for that.

You could go to Wal-Mart and get a strap for your glasses. It can be adjusted to hold your glasses securely on any ride. Did that last year and never had a problem. Good luck!!!!

I've worn my glasses on all the rides, including roller coasters and had no trouble with them falling off. Worst thing thats personally happened to me while wearing them was on the Hulk once the wind pushed them more onto my face (Didn't experiance that on repeat rides).

My sight is so bad that taking off my glasses isn't a option for me, so this is something I tried when I first got glasses since I was pretty paranoid about this as well back then. I used a glasses cord that you wear around your neck and loop it through the label tag on my t-shirt that way if the worse did happen they couldn't go anywhere.

Had sunglasses on for my trip. I wore them on every ride just to test to see how they would do. Every ride I went on they stayed in place perfectly fine EXCEPT Rock n Rollercoaster. RNRC seemed to me like it'd be fine for wearing glasses but when I had them on while riding I found that during the inversions and the corkscrew the rollercoaster seemed to slow down a little bit. They stayed on fine during the take off and any of the "straight" parts, just the inversions were where I could feel them being a little loose. Expedition Everest was NO problem at all. ToT no problem and any of the mountains in MK were no problem. My sunglasses might be a little tighter than normal glasses though. Just my observations!

I have worn my glasses on all rides- although I have had sunglasses that didn't fit as well and would take those off on Space Mountain and Rock-N-rollercoaster.

If the glass fit on your face and don't slip when you look down- they are find on most of the rides.

i also found that I could wear the 3D glasses for shows and movies just fine over my glasses too,

have always worn glasses myself and never really had a problem with them coming loose or falling off

You can keep your glasses on for ALL rides, including Splash, TOT, and RRC.

My DH and I wear our glasses all the time for all rides. I found really cute straps at our local Dollar Tree last summer. You can also find them at any discount store-Walmart, Target, K-Mart, etc. If you really want to make sure the strap will stay on most eye doctors carry them as well and can assist you in choosing one that will work best for you!:thumbsup2

I have heard that the old hard contact lenses were harsh on the eyes. I have always worn the soft lenses, and they are fine if they aren't worn too long so you might do better with lenses than you think. I don't even have a pair of glasses and haven't for years.

Do bring an extra pair of lenses if you choose to wear them on Splash Mountain though. I had to shut my eyes during the splash to keep my lenses from washing out because I was sitting down in front, where all I could see was the water over my face. It was a comfort to know that I had an extra pair of lenses in a room across the street.

My sight is so bad that taking off my glasses isn't a option for me,

Me too - if I take them off it looks like I'm seeing everything through a thick layer of Vaseline on my eyeballs. (I just measured the thickness of my right lens, it's 5/16" thick and I pay for the special "thin" lenses!)
Anyway, I wear my specs all the time, except for sleeping. I wore them on a Class V whitewater trip and they didn't come off even when I got knocked out of the raft and went underwater. They only got knocked askew when they hauled me up over the side (don't go rafting unless you're prepared for a bit of indignity :) ).
So my point is that if your glasses fit well, then none of the "mountain" rides, or even "Dinosaur" will knock them off.
One trick I do is to look down and shake my head, kind of like a dog trying to dry itself off. If they stay put, they're fine. I also have a couple of straps, which I rarely use. You can get some good ones at the optometrist's office, but Walmart or Dick's Sporting Goods have them too.

Wow - thanks for all the quick replies. Contacts are out due to astigmatism, so soft lenses won't make much difference to me (in fact, I can't actually see anything with those in!).

Will invest in a sports strap just in case and continue to carry around a cheap glasses case in the event of me panicking before a ride.

Thanks again!

I feel your frustration - I have astigmatism too and have never been able to wear contacts comfortably (the poor optician finally ran out of options for me to try - I think we tried EIGHT different kinds of lenses!). I didn't use a sports strap, I just used a regular glasses cord and left the glasses attached to the cord ends at all times. When we went on anything really fast like Space Mountain, I just tucked my glasses under my shirt still attached to the cord iykwim? The thing that I was most worried about was my sunglass clip-ons flying off - they weren't cheap and they're a real blessing in direct sunshine! I'm a worrywart, so I kept a finger on the middle of the sunglasses part during rides - bit of a pain, but I felt better :rotfl2:

wearing glasses have never been a problem for me at WDW. Ive worn glasses for many years, and have had about 3 trips to the world with them. At first i would take them off at almost any ride for fear they would fly off my face! But this got old quick.

Ive found that they can stay on any ride as long as they are fitted properly :) that means the peice the goes behind your ear needs to be as "L" shaped as possible, if yours is nearly straight behind your ears, chances are they will fly off! :scared1:

I always just go to any eyeglass store before my vacation. Even the side booth inside of walmart is fine, and just ask someone to adjust your glasses, and they will do it for you. Then when you go, you dont have to worry about constantly taking them off (not to mention not being able ot see the action!)

...yes, I have worn them on rock n roller coaster!
