I have never worn a hat (baseball cap) in my life but figured wearing one while at Disney would save me a good half hour every morning. Yes, I am female;)
So my question is: are there any restaurants that would not allow me to wear my hat during my meal? Or is it even respectful for me to wear one whether they allow it or not???
The point of me wearing a hat would be so I wouldn't have to fix my hair, so there would be NO way I would remove it for any reason throughout the day:rotfl2:

I believe that only the signature restaurants will not allow the hat.
You will get alot of different responses on this topic. For women, I don't believe that it is a real issue. Not a lot of complaints on females wearing hats indoors.
Now men on the other hand, you will get a lot of comments. A lot of people say that it is rude for a man to wear a hat indoors at a restaurant. I am one of those people-except at Disney. If a man or boy has been wearing a hat all day long in the heat, I would rather that he wear it during the meal instead of seeing his dirty, wet, sweaty head. (DH included :):)) Others will disagree with me and tell you it is rude no matter what.
On the saving time with the hat for you, I tried it several years ago. It may be okay for a couple of days, but I still felt the need to do my hair and makeup-probably because I do it everyday at home and just feel more complete when it is done. Everyone is different. There are lots of women that wear hats there.

get a new ear hat!! Thats what I do every year so I can just put my hair in a ponytail and go!!:)

I would say that you would be absolutely fine at any of the restaurants in the parks for sure. Definitely not at at a signature, and some of the other restaurants at the deluxe resorts I might not feel comfortable wearing one. I also agree that if you make it one with mouse ears you'll be even better off!

Besides Signatures, I wore a cute baseball cap with nice shorts/capris and tshirt/tee half my trip last year...even our TS meals in the parks. I am particular about my hair blowing all over the place on rides and getting tangled and messed up and with a hat I felt my hair was more under control, plus, it helps keep the hot sun off the face! I saw tons of ladies with caps on....everywhere!:thumbsup2

Even women should be respectful and remove their hats while dining.

I agree with Atchley and besides men, I think most women wearing a hat most the day would prefer not to show a dirty, sweaty head at dinner in an amusement park...myself included. Now if the lady at the next table chooses to do so, that is her preference. Signatures, on the other hand...No!:goodvibes

Traditionally, etiquette says that a lady does not have to remove her hat when indoors. Have you never seen all the ladies with their fine hats in church??

With men, the opposite is true. A gentleman always removes his hat indoors. And since I will assume that the gentleman will also be washing his hands before he eats, it cannot possibly be a hardship for him to use a comb on his hair as well. So much more polite and personable to have neatly combed damp hair than a sweaty, dirty baseball cap.

Women do not need to remove hats indoors -- or even during the national anthem!! Only men.

The rule seems to relate back to the days when women's hats were huge affairs with ribbons, flowers, fake birds and whatnot. There is some suggestion in some etiquette guides that, with a baseball cap, it's as easy for a woman to remove it as a man so perhaps she should remove it. But, the rule still is that men must remove their hats indoors and, for women, it's optional.

Here's an essay on the topic.

I think wearing a hat that is of the type that was worn when the etiquette rulles were written is fine.

As for a baseball cap, I wear one a lot at WDW. I always remove it in a restaurant, just as my husband and sons remove theirs. A baseball cap is not some elegant attire with pins that would require a great deal of effort to remove.

Maybe my opinion is because I was in the military and women removed their hats indoors, same as men.

I also believe that everyone (regardless of gender) should remove their hats at dinner (I'm not saying "indoors" because when I walk into a store to go shopping, I don't think you need to take off a hat) and ALWAYS during the National Anthem.

Nothing irks me more than someone who doesn't remove their hat for the National Anthem. I come from a military family and I feel that it is extremely disrespectful to not take your hat off when playing our National Anthem, no matter male, female, adult or child (yes, it is up to the adults to inform the children that they should remove their hats). I have attended thousands of sporting events in my life and I have never hesitated to ask/remind someone to remove their hat.

and

Thank you!!

DH and I remove our hats when we dine at the TS places... and ride fast rides :lmao:. At CS places we keep our hats on. Just a personal preference.

BUT that said, I have never felt offended by others wearing hats in the TS restaurants, so I don't see anything wrong with it, OP. ESPECIALLY if you're dining IN the parks. At the hotels... I still wouldn't be offended by seeing people in hats.

It's Disney, after all :)

I think the only place you are going to have a problem is if you go to a signature TS. Dh wears a hat on a daily basis, and he does not take it off if we dine in the parks. I really don't care if someone else has a problem with it because, it is their problem, not his.:) Of course if we go out for a nice dinner he is not going to wear a hat. Of course he will take his hat off for the national anthem, but I don't expect him to take it off after a day of sweating when eating in the parks. I say, if you want to keep it on, keep it on. True someone may look at you and think, "oh the nerve of that woman" but the way I look at it is, life is too short to worry about what other people (who I will never see again) thinks. If someone can't enjoy their meal because the person at the next table has a baseball cap on, they have some real issues.

My brother's name is bill, and his wife's name is deb, so now i just gotta ask -- what state are you from????? :rotfl:

Well, we don't have relatives in PA. He's from NY and I'm from IL, but we used to live in MT and now we live in LA (and that's not in CA).

By the responses it looks like there are 2 questions being answered.

The 1st) Should a hat be worn in a restaurant? Some folks say no.

The 2nd) Do many people wear hats in Disney restaurants? That answer is a resounding YES.
