We would like to request a sub-forum for the Budget board

I actually think that they should just move the Budget Board, as-is, under the Just for Fun heading and leave it at that. If all the trip planning forums are for specific things and you can ask your budget questions there (e.g saving money on a room in the hotels forum), let the general budget discussion fall into Just for Fun. I think that would actually work better.

Excellent idea. Better than sub-forums here, IMO. Because if we had a community sub-forum here, I think everyone would use it almost exclusively.

Has a moderator ever actually responded when people have asked why posts are moved?

I'd like a sub forum, I don't care where as long as everything isn't dumped into the community board.

I agree that if the mods continue to narrow the scope of topic on the Budget Board it will become a much less frequented board. Maybe this board's requirements can be broadened. For example, change the definition of the current board from one based on "How to save money for Disney" to a board offering ideas for smart shopping, fiscal responsibility and simple living.

I was wondering this too, because some of the threads that were moved really have me scratching my head. I'd love to see some specifics about what the mods consider appropriate and inappropriate threads for this board.

I am new to this area but love reading the budget information. Dividing it up as you suggests would make it much harder to navigate. I honestly understand where the mods are coming from in that other thread about the number of threads being moved. People still would post in these sub forums about battery charging for cell phones, for recipe and party ideas, etc. Those really have no budget relation at all. I look for the budget advice in these threads and there is usually good stuff but I will admit I have notified mods on some of the threads cause it is difficult to navigate when there are threads you think are budget related only to find it is about charging batteries or suggestions for party food, etc. When you subdivide it will cause people not to know where to post. Mods seem to have their opinion on what they are doing. I have no prob hitting notify mods....people do need to stray from the norm and post things in the community area. I go there too and they are not mean or anything. General discussions or party ideas or battery charging questions don't belong here. Loved one a couple weeks ago about how to work a phone...and somehow person tried to link to budget. I for one will deviate and say I support what mods are doing moving threads and think cluttering with sub forums would ruin this budget area. People wouldn't know which of the 2-3 or however many subforums to post in!

While suggestions for party foods, might not seem like the ideal budget board topic, the person creating it, is look for budget minded ideas. Put it on the community board and people go all over place in terms of food and price. On the budget board, people are more apt to posting information on how to save, what's cheaper, what's a good alternative, and so forth to save the OP a few dollars on something that's going to cost a quite a bit of money.

There either needs to be a sub forum or moved to the "just for fun" section so it can broaden the topics.

Count me in. Really like this board as it was. I don't like boards where threads are added so quickly that they fly off the first page. And when they are moved, you can't do the cursor trick and get the jist of what the thread is about.

The other forums I frequent have rare movement of threads, but when they do, the mods always put in a post about why they are moving them on the thread.

I have scored some awesome savings using this board the past 4 years (lurked for a year before joining) and I am very grateful! I also know it must be very time-consuming to moderate, and am appreciative of those who take the time to do so for the Disboards. I certainly don't want to look at nude pics of some creepy person!

But, please, I have not reported a thread as inappropriate in 4 yrs of lurking/contributing almost daily, and I can imagine that it is just someone's little pet peeve that makes them do so.

If it's got to be super strict budget in order to save for Disney talk, then please give (?the majority) of us a new forum, and we'll be happy to use it.

Yes, a moderator has checked in over on this thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2753402

Apparently the mods are getting inappropriate thread reports from the budget board daily.

Specifically see:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=41735708&postcount=36
and
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=41735909&postcount=42

I'm actually kind of surprised by that, and I've been around a long time, so not much surprises me.

Like I said on the other thread, the problem is that it's really easy for the complainers to click the report thread tab and immediately alert the moderators when they don't think a topic is appropriate.

But those of us who are OK with a broader definition of what belongs on the budget board, and in fact enjoy having a wide variety of topics to choose from, don't necessarily have an easy way of communicating that.

Honestly is it that big of a deal to skip over the threads you don't feel are appropriate?

Totally Agree!!

Also, totally agree!!

A community sub forum sounds great, as does just moving the whole budget board to the "Just for Fun" section. I'm happy with either of these solutions :thumbsup2! I would also be happy if the complainers just stopped complaining so the mods could stop moving threads and leave the board the way it used to be. I've been on here for several years now, and I've never complained about a thread. I'm just not sure why people can't skip over threads they're not into :confused3. --Katie

Thank you everyone for popping in to show your support!

I would like to remind everyone here that we want to keep this thread going... so yes, most of us are very sad that the old budget board can't go on as it used to be, but instead of pointing fingers and placing blame, lets come together and find a solution that will make everyone happy!!!

I heart my fellow budget peeps!!!

Agree!! I have visited this board several times a day, EVERY day for years. When I am away from my computer, I check in on my phone. Yep, addicted!! I hate seeing threads moved. In my opinion if someone wants to know how to save their budget, this is the place for them, whether its for groceries, DVDs, theme park tickets, vacations, cars, whatever. "Any dollar saved is a dollar for Disney", does that no longer apply?

Missy, thank you! I do understand why a board would NOT want a political or religious sub-forum because both of these topics can be rather heated and require a lot of moderation.

I hope our request is not pushed aside as such, because asking for a recipe for an open house or an opinion on furniture, while both budget related, can be construed by some as being off-topic. These topics, however, and certainly helpful for many people and really will not generate a need for massive amounts of moderation and potential hostility.

But why couldn't people just got to the community board for those questions? I don't care one way or the other if they choose to make another board, I just don't understand what the big deal is about using the community board for community board type topics. Either way you have to navigate to another page. And it would one more page for the Dis to moderate.

Magic Mom,

Well, not speaking for everyone, but just myself, the advice I get here is expected to be "budget friendly". For example, if I were looking at different phones and wanted an opinion, I wouldn't want to hear about the most expensive phone. I would want to hear about the best phone for my money.

The community board is great, but it tends to be associated toward other topics such as television shows or current events. It is great to have a place to discuss these as well, but I feel that a "budget board" would be a better fit for many of the questions that we have.

As for having more than one page to moderate, one of the suggestions has been to move the budget board entirely to the Just for Fun section. If this was the case, there would still only be 1 page to moderate, and there would be no need to move the topics that some would consider "off topic"

If a sub-forum was created, there would be 2 pages to watch, but there would not be a need to move threads anymore.

That makes more sense then. I though you just wanted your own community board but what you really want is a board to be able to discuss budget ideas not realted to Disney. I agree though, just moving the current board ( or better yet keeping it here and allowing all budget discussions) is the best solution.

While most of us would love to be able to keep the budget board here, as is, there are some who are not in favor of it, and to be honest, a lot of the current posts do not really fit in with what was originally intended. (This is assumption on my part, I'm sorry, but if these posts were allowed, they would not be moved to the community board)

We would like to keep our budget family all together, and so if we can't stay here, we would love to have the budget forum moved so that we can keep it together.

You can all still be together posting here and the CB. A lot of people on the BB already post on the CB.

I don't think moving the board will be as effective as creating a budget community board. People who dislike seeing things that they consider OT will continue to report the threads resulting in them being moved the generic community board because they want only what they perceive as budget. If there's a sub category then those who do want threads on party menus and treadmills to remain budget focussed can have them in a budget type of board without muddying up the WDW budget board for those who have been frustrated. Moving the board as-is to the Just for Fun area will still have the same problem that this board it seems has right now.
