Is it faster to get them thru Disney or resale ?

Is it faster to get them for small or larger contracts ?

Personally, I would do the following:
* decide what UY would work best for you - best to choose one right before the times you normally travel.
* call DVC and see if/what UYs they currently have available or do you have to go on a waitlist
* check out a few of the resale companies and see what's listed for sale now
* look at the ROFR thread and see what BCV's selling for (price per point)

After that, you can play around with the numbers and time line and decide what's best. Disney will definitely be faster, but your minimum buy-in is 160 points. With Dis, you'll have availability to your points almost immediately. You can also finance through them, even though I think the Timeshare Store offers financing (through a 3rd party). Resale will definitely take longer, but you may be able to save some money and there's no minimum buy-in. You could buy a 25 point contract only if you chose to! With resale, you have to get passed that ROFR hurdle, and on average, it will take about 2 months before you have access to your points.

As for small/large contracts, I would buy multiple small if you're thinking of buying a lot of points. Bottom line, you can sell smaller contracts easier for more money and have more options in the future. With multiple contracts, you can sell off one, some or all, but if you buy a big contract (e.g., 350 points), you can't break it apart and sell it.

Congrats and best of luck!!! :goodvibes

No one really knows, but you can get on a waitlist at both places and whoever contacts you first you can buy from. FYI..I just got my BCV add on points. I was waiting for over a year.

Are you already a member? If so, then you really want your BCV points to be the same use year month that you currently have. If it's a different month, then it's a totally new membership and new master contract. If it's the same use year month, then you want it recorded as an add-on contract and not a new master contract.

I had this same question. I'm an existing member with BWV points. I'm looking to add on, and want BCV points - so best for me would be to waitlist with both WDW and retail for my UY and see what comes through? Are there differences in ultimate price I'll pay between the two options? Do I pay closing costs with WDW now for an add-on?

No closing costs if going direct through Disney, but you will (or the seller will depending on how you make the offer) have to pay closing costs.

I just got a 50 point add on for BCV this week(from Disney) and it came through in.....hold your breath......one week:cool1:

p.s. UY was April

We are in the process of buying 50 pts at OKW with Oct UY thru resale (first time and this is all we can afford for now) . Right now we are waiting for Disney to do the whole ROFR thing which hopefully we will make it thru. Anyway, my question is, if we make it thru and get in, down the road can we buy let's say a 50pt addon at BCV thru Disney with same UY and not have to buy the 160 pts buy-in? (of course, this is assuming one becomes available) Or can you only addon to your home resort?

Thanks for clarifying!

While true, generally, resale contracts are available for sale at the time you see them. You know what's available. You may actually get to use a resale contract quicker than if you bought through Disney especially if you have to wait 3-6 months for a waitlist to come through with Dis.

I have been on the beach club list for disney for about one and a half months, rep states nothing available, but I have seen several beach club contracts sold and available now. I want a certain use year. But, it is faster for resale than disney. I bought 50 points from resale in just 3 days. Disney looks like it will be a year. Personally I think the rep is mad I did not buy ss. they must make more on ss than the older resorts.

I wasn't adding on, but I talked to a DVC guide on a Wednesday to ask about buying points at BCV and she said there was a year long wait list.

We REALLY wanted BCV, so I contacted some resellers on a Friday, and by Monday, we made an offer on a contract. We're working with Jaki at ********** - I HIGHLY recommend her.

The problem with the DVC wait list is once you are on (10 day back out) you are on, and must wait through Disney even if you see resale ones pop up that look good. No backing out!! That was why we decided to add onto our BCV contact throught resale.

Good luck,

I backed out.... I just called my guide after about 6 months and said "changed my mind" and I was off the list.

You can back out at any time. Until you SIGN the closing documents you don't legally own and can back out

What UY did you have that took so long?

I didn't see your question answered adn I apologize if I missed it and this is a double post. Once you are in the system, you can purchase any amount of points. You are not limited by the 160 pt. requirement. We are doing what you did. We purchased a 50 pt. HHI contract and will add on. We don't need 160 pts. and wanted a couple small contracts instead of a large one. Good luck with ROFR. It is averaging about a 10 day wait to hear back.

Laxmom - thank you so much for answering my Q! I hope I hear back soon, like the song goes, "the waiting is the hardest part".

That's interesting...I was told we could not back out after that time frame. That was why we RAN. I did not want to wait list forever when I saw other resales with good UY's popping up.

Thanks for the info, I'll mention that to my guide next time.
