we won a cruise - only regret is it's not Disney

it was suggested on the cruise boards to attempt a post here - hope you have some suggstions - thanks for viewing

First and foremost...many-many thanks for your posts and replies. You've helped make our past WDW/DCL trips wonderful – again, our thanks.

Our office was in competition this year against another. Well...our group out performed the east coast office and we won an all expanses paid cruise. As a compulsive planner…I want to do my research to take full advantage of this nice gift. I've been blessed to support a company - well, that supports my family with more…than just a paycheck. The only (small) regret I have is – this is a non-disney cruise.

The tentative schedule is to take a 3-day cruise with Celebrity on the Mercury out of Seattle toward the end of September. The itinerary includes a stop in Vancouver BC and an island named Nanaimo (or is this a Peninsula). This will just be a Mom and I trip as we will be leaving the kids with Grandparents (can I get a YEE HAW!!!). I’ve requested an additional day off and would like to leave a day earlier. We are looking forward in spending some additional ‘couples only time’ in downtown Seattle.

I appreciate some assistance – suggestions;

I am looking for web sites to gain an education on things to do and what to expect; downtown Seattle, Celebrity cruises, Vancouver and Nanaimo, Canada.

Don't know anything about the West Coast of Canada but wanted to CONGRATULATE you on you Win!

Wow! Congratulations! Celebrity cruises are supposed to be nice - more of an adult audience than a family-style. You may have already come from this site but cruisecritic.com has a message board for 'ports of call'. I'm sure Vancouver and Seattle have to be on there as most of the cruises from the lower 48 to Alaska stop there. If you haven't already done so, check it out! Again, congratulations!

Vancouver is a beautiful city and you will love it ~ especially at that time of the year! Be sure to visit North Vancouver and try Capilano Suspension Bridge and take the gondola to the top of Grose Moutain ~ the view is spectacular ~ you can see Vancouver Island from there. By the Way ~ Nanaimo is located on Vancouver Island ~ you may want to take a shore excursion into Victoria (the capital of BC). The Butchart Gardens are gorgeous and the city itself has lots to offer! However, the distance is about 75 miles. Nanaimo itself has great salmon fishing and hiking areas.
go to www.hellobc.com for more information.

Congratulations on winning your cruise!

My DH and I went on a Celebrity Cruise to the Carrib. and it is indeed more of an adult boat. The buffet for breakfast and lunch are really superior, the main dining is just elegant (people really dress up-cocktail dresses) and on captain's night alot of the men wore tuxes. The pools and hot tubs were good and there was a fitness centre on board. The staterooms were very nice and the staff were extremely polite and efficient. I would say you are very lucky...except like you said...it is not a disney cruise...but a great adult cruise without the kids..have fun :earsgirl:
