......but instead, we are going to add on!

DH & I had been talking about buying a condo near Disney because we go twice a year and thought it would be a good investment (rent it out when we don't want to use it). But, when we arrived at the BW on Thur and walked out onto the boardwalk, I said to him "Why do we want to leave this place????"

Light dawned on marblehead. If we sold and bought the condo, I don't think vacations would feel the same. Just having the option to walk to Epcot at night is worth every penny!!

Now I have to wait for an add on for the BWV!

Just take a look at your own signature! It's been a very long time since you've gone off-site!!

you can stay offsite even in a condo or house much, much cheaper than Disney. So I won't be so quick to buy there. Orlando (in my opinion) is still very overpriced.

sometimes of the year you can stay for a whole week for the cost of a Disney room for a night or two.

I think you made a great decision. As SpiceyCat points out housing sale prices in Orlando are HIGH (I did some research for a job opportunity earlier this year) and competetion for the "renters" is STEEP.

We thought about it too, but renting a condo or home is alot of work. The competition is steep and the rental prices are low. We would have to spend at least part of our vacation doing maintenance on our unit or home so we bought more DVC too! :thumbsup2

We actually have both. We have a condo off site, and DVC. The condo is rented like a hotel room and it wa a good investment for us. Now we have big family reunions, and can sleep lots of people. It has really been a lot of fun. It's not for everyone though. Good luck!

The wife and I have talked and buying a condo and renting it out (not that we would want to do this) WDW just wouldnt be the same if we didn't stay on site.

A good deal of the enjoyment with WDW is the resorts IMHO.

Having looked at Condos at HH lately, I doubt you could justify the dollars of buying and renting out unless you planned to move down and use it for a large part of the year in the near future. I think you made a better choice. Something else you may want to consider is some off site options at other timeshares or even see if there are fractionals in the area that fit your needs. Esp if you're looking at longer trips in the future.

We did the same thing! We toyed around with buying a condo/house around WDW, but we love staying on-site!!! It just wouldn't be the same trip not being on property. As others have noted there is alot of competition for renters and we were not happy with the rent rates. We also didn't feel we'd get our use time out of it as we'd only be able to visit two weeks a year. So we also added on!! :) Congrats!! :)

Before we decided to buy DVC this year, DH suggested to go offsite for our next trip. I was so sad at the prospect. After discussion of the pros and cons of onsite vs. offsite, he conclued that it would not be the same trip if we stayed off site and that led to the DVC purchase.

We did this, bought a couple of EOY (every other year) timeshares that lock off for around $1,200 a piece, and now with those weeks and cash Getaway weeks from II and our DVC points, we could spend the winter in Orlando easily. :goodvibes
