We were DISSAPPOINTED with the Boardwalk Inn.

Just got back this past Saturday November 24. Our trip was fine as usual. Weather was perfect.

HOWEVER, this was our 1st time staying at BWI...and it will be the last. We were in room 2328. No problem with the housekeeping in our room...

A BIG problem with the overall cleanliness of the hallways leading to our room.

A big problem with construction going on in the courtyard by the quiet pool on Mon, Tues and Weds.

It was unreal how much "slop" was outside of peoples rooms for more than 12 hours after they ordered room service. Glasses, mugs, plates and trays of peoples food just sitting there.

Trust me, I complained and the manager gave me a look of surpirsed embarrassment that this had happened.

But overall, I think we got spoiled by our POLY stay last year. IMHO....I would stay at POR before I would stay at BWI again.

The Polynesian is not immune from the same thing. The last time we stayed there a battered and obviously discarded suitcase sat in the hallway near our door for three days before it was removed. I've seen room service trays sit outside doors at the GF for over 12 hours. It happens, and it's one of many things that Disney should be a lot more on top of.

Ugh, this is one of my pet peeves, too, the dishes in the hallway! What are you paying the "service fee" for to room service, that they don't send someone to clean up a couple of hours later?

This is something I've seen at EVERY Deluxe resort, by the way, including the Polynesian.

And as for construction, I make it a rule to never stay where there's rehabbing going on, of any kind. My vaction dollars are too valuable to me to put up with that, I want to stay in a resort that is 100% open and fixed up nicely. I check the rehab schedules and if it's something I can avoid by switching resorts, I will.

We stayed at the Boardwalk in October 06 and my biggest complaint was that you could only get to MGM via boat. Boats were slow and far between. The walk to Epcot was great.
I do remember seeing trays in the hall way but I was more concerned about how far away our room was from the lobby. We overlooked the pool with the big slide. Everything else was as expected

You can walk to MGM - the path runs along the canal the boat takes and feeds up to the side of the parking lot at MGM (across the canal from the boat dock).

I agree. I hate it when room trays are left sitting in the halls for hours on end.
We exeperienced the same thing when we stayed at the CR in the tower several years ago.
That is one of the reasons I have not booked a room at a Disney deluxe resort since then.
If I want a deluxe stay I stay at the Swan/Dolphin . They are true 4 star hotels with stellar sevice.

I would like to hear from anyone with hotel experience as to just why this is a continuing problem in hotels, not just Disney hotels ....

I can understand that housekeeping does not have the capacity to retrieve and handle the trays but why are there no scheduled rounds by someone to collect trays ...

I have stayed in hotels where a tray was in the hall for 72+ hours. I would like to believe that a member of management wanders the halls at least once a day.

gotta say i agree big time with this one.
i can never think of a bad thing to say about our disney trips, but
this reminded me of our last visit at the Pop.
I partially blame the dopes next door who put their late night dinner trays out in front of their rooms. (a lot of left over food)
its bad enough in a hotel hallway, but as you know the Pop doors are outside and open to the lake.
if you havent figured it out yet, my room was attacked like in the movie the "birds".
it was sick. food and garbage all over, birds cawing scaring the kids.

i got over it though, still loved the pop.

Housekeeping doesn't remove the trays. You are supposed to call room service when you are finished with your meal. You can leave it in your room or leave it outside. I think many people are unaware of this. It would help keep things a bit tidier.

Yes, it reminds me of our last stay in CR tower! We left our room one morning and walked by two awful-looking trays....well....guess what? When we got back to CR around dinner time, yup! the trays were still there! The left over food smelled horrible and my girls plugged their noses and screamed as they ran by.

Yup - this is true. Ideally housekeeping might tell the dining room staff, but they have enough to remember. When I've done this, I'm told when I order to call when I'm finished and the tray is removed within a couple of hours.

Sorry to hear you didn't like BWI. As someone else said, there is a walking path to MGM that hugs the BWI side of the waterway.

You can call room service for tray removal....even if it's not yours. If you see trays in the hallway....just call....they will pick them up.

I do agree that there is no excuse for dirty dishes to be left in the hallway. However if the resort is operating at or near capacity that should at least be taken into consideration. Since the week the OP visited is one of the busiest times of the year at WDW, it is understandable-maybe not acceptable, but understandable.

I have to agree that most people just 'assume' their trays will get taken away if they leave them outside the door. I have yet to stay at any deluxe resort where there were not trays left outside the doors for hours on end. It's my greatest peeve with the deluxes. Just leave the dishes in your room and call room service to get them. It's the one really great thing about the moderates and values..you just don't see that happen all that much.
I remember being at the Polynesian and looking at the same tray, in the hall, for a day and a half!!!

I stayed at the BWI in 2006 and enjoyed my stay. I would stay there again if the Poly was unavailable. That said, out of the Disney resorts that I have stayed at, the BWI had the worst mousekeeping. The bathroom was dirty and there was a blood-stained gauze bandage (not a Band-aid) that was on the floor for two days before I finally picked it up and threw it out. It was impossible to miss, so I know that mousekeeping did not clean the bathroom before my arrival and during my stay.

Sorry to hear that you had to contend with construction. One thing that I appreciated about the BWI was the sense of peace.

Because they can make your room smell awful--particularly if not all the food is eaten.

I don't think there is any excuse to leave the trays in the hallway for hours. Room service knows where trays have been taken--they should be going back to check. I've had room service call me an hour or so after a meal to see if they could come pick up the tray. I stayed at a Four Points Sheraton last weekend--I put the trays in the hallway and they were gone within an hour without notifying them.

Just my opinion, but that's all the more reason not to put a tray of half-eaten food out in the hallway. There's much less space to absorb any odor, and if you put that with other trays that still have food on them, it can make the entire hallway smell badly. While it would be nice (and certainly great customer service) if room service staff would be able to track where trays are, I don't think it's unreasonable to just make a quick call requesting a tray pick-up.

When we were at the POLY in August 2007, the resort was packed. I honestly dont think there is ever a "SLOW" time for WDW.

So, IMHO...the busy week of Thanksgiving is NO EXCUSE.

That being said, I did see room service trays in the hallways of the POLY,
BUT NOT FOR 12 HOURS AND / OR OVERNIGHT. !!!!!!!!

I understand NOTHING is perfect, BUT with the amount of money we are all paying for these resorts...either it be deluxe, moderate or value,

IT BETTER BE DARNED CLOSE TO PERFECT. !!!!!!!
