We went to the Butterfly Conservancy in Key West.

Yes.....

1) How did you get there? Was it near a stop on the Trolley?

2) How much was admission?

3) How long did you stay there?

4) Where your kids (if any) interested?

5) Was it worth it?

Thanks for asking!!!

We took the Bone Island Shuttle there and back. $7.00 a person all day.
Butterfly- $10.00 a person.
We were there about an hour. No kids (ours are adults)
We enjoyed it very much. We felt it was worth it and we would do it again.

Hey there Judy,
so you did get to the Butterfly Farm - wasn't it nice - I thought so - didn't you get a Key West packet from me? If so there was a coupon in there for 10% - anyhow let me know ok - how did you enjoy the rest of Key West? Inquiring minds want to know - like me :p
Always
Shirley

We have a Butterfly Consrvatory in Niagara Falls Ontario and we have 3 ids 1.5 and almost 3 and 7 the 2 older ones love it and can't wait to get back there next month. It is very interesting and educational for the kids. Ours has little info boards all over the place telling you about the different species you will see. We as parents love it to good quality time with the kids and they get to learn something.

Hi Shirley, yes we did have a Key West packet from you and we used the 10% coupon. Thank you again for sending it. You are sweet. Key West was okay. Nice to visit for a day but I don't think I would like to spend a whole vacation there. That surprised me because Key West was a vacation spot we were considering. We are not party people so I guess that is why.
We enjoyed the butterflys very much. When they asked how we heard about them, our answer of course was "From Shirley at The Perfect Gift"! We took the Bone Shuttle Island (blue one way and red the other) each way.

How can I get more information on this? Particularly wondering if my 3 and 4 yr olds would enjoy it. Do they have a website, you think?

I think they would like it. We never saw so many beautiful butterflies in our lives! They do ask you not to touch them so that could be too tempting for little ones, you decide. Not sure about a website.

Judy - glad the coupon helped - I know Key West has changed from when I was growing up there - It really was a real paradise back then -
The website address for the butterfly farm in Key West is www.keywestbutterfly.com
Hope that will help.
Always
Shirley

Shirley, thanks so much for the information. It's difficult to think of excursions that would interest my two little ones, and I think this will be perfect. Thanks so much and you'll be hearing from me re baskets closer to our cruise!

Right across the street and up about a block is the CHICKEN STORE~Which is a wonderful place to STOP and learn about the "chickens" of KEY WEST! It's an adorable little gift shop, with Chickens inside/out, and loads of little quirky souveniers. We enjoyed both the Butterfly C. & the Chicken store! Here are the links to both:

We bought a beautiful large & colorful "round" Premium Butterfly art display case (wings of imagination). These are STUNNING, and can be viewed on the website in the Gallery.

We loved Key West SO much during our Western Carribean Cruise visit...that we traveled down there last summer (After taking the Eastern Wonder Cruise), and stayed a week! It's a great place to explore...etc., and a fabulous drive down across all the KEYS! ::yes::

Just to let you know there is also a great butterfly conservatory in Cambridge, Ontario just off the 401 @ Hwy 24. I live in Paris and we go several times a year - my kids DS7 and DD4 love it!

The Southern Most Point is also right near the butterflys.

DD6 loved the Key West Butterfly Conservatory! It was well worth the time. It is located near one of the trolley stops (I believe near the Southernmost Point). Have a great time.

I walked to the Butterfly place with my DS 10. It would be too much of a walk for younger kids. (We also walked to the southernmost point on the way back to the ship). We enjoyed the butterflies. They flutter all around you, but for some reason won't land on you! They said at the beginning that it is good luck if they do land on you.... It is the size of a large backyard and it is gardeny and you just walk around a path. The butterflies are sitting and eating food that the place puts out for them. You can watch them very closely as they eat so it is somewhat educational. They also have a video, etc., but I don't think many people hang around and watch it. We really liked it, but it doesn't take long to get through the whole thing. The beach is right down the street (close) if you wanted to check it out also.

Where the Butterfly farm is - it is close to the Southermost Point - 90 miles from Cuba exalty - at this location, there once was a great deal of "fishing" for conchs )the real ones in a shell - it too was a place to watch many years ago the ferry going accross on its way to Cuba - Mr. Albert, who just passed away last year, was a history buff on Key west - he started selling shells, trickets, coconut juice, anything that had to do with the seas and our island home, many many years ago - the next generation has taken over - if you get down there, stop by and say hello and just tell them Norman Hicks , the postman, said hello - this is also where Norm and I got married 2 years ago - Albert played the wedding march on the conch shell - can't get more conchy than that - (anyhow another tidbit about Key West)
the Southermost House is located also not too far from the Butterfly farm - the gentleman that owns it, Charlie Ramos and a classmate of ours, has done a beautiful job with the tourist attraction - now as for the South beach - you do have to be careful for it is not taken care of as well as it should be.
While you are around the butterfly farm, you should walk over to Dennis Pharmacy and go in and have something to drink - it is on the corner of simonton and United - all the conch locals hang around there - its very informative and interesting.
anyhow another small tidbit from an ol conch
Always
Shirley
