This is going to be my ongoing battle cry -
so Fidelio fans, Dueling Piano fans - let's be heard!

WE WANT FIDELIO BACK!

Rae

Hear, hear, and he has to have Anton with him. :teeth:

To have you back Rae....
We are women, hear us ROAR!!! Oh, sorry BD.:teeth: This is the co-ed Fidelio Fan Club. Rae, I caught a freeview concert of MeatLoaf on Direct TV!!! His singing partner is Patricia Russo.....Paradise by the Dashboard Lights was great! has Fidelio checked in on the boards lately. I've been off a while...work has me swamped!

dvcreg - you still have that Anton fixation, huh?! He was a great guy, wasn't he? Were you there when he did my request for "Waltzing Matilda"? Tom hadn't heard it and was surprised when I told him what it was about!!! Hey, just call me an Aussie fan!

Yes, we do want our Piano Guy back!

Laura - he hasn't posted in a very long time. He isn't on the Wonder and it's going to be a long, lonely cruise without Dueling Pianos. I do so hope those sports/teens/coffee drinkers enjoy their new places.......because I certainly want Off Beats back with Dueling Pianos.

We are women, hear us ROAR - and that's not only hormones singing!!!

I actually met Meatloaf in Minnesota - I could have died on the spot since he was just a few feet from me and when he smiled at me,.........wow....

I am still singing Dashboard - and when Fidelio did it, it was pure magic!!!!

Sorry about your job - always something isn't it.

So if anyone hears where the Piano Guy is - let the rest of us know.

Rae

:earsboy: Hi rae......Our beloved Fidelio is well and still has that wonderful up-beat attitude. As far as having Fidelio back on the Magic all I can say is.....YES YES YES, you have my support 200%. I cruise on the Magic Jan 3rd and will sadly miss not seeing him on board making me laugh and enjoying the "Rock & Roll". I do believe we should start a MASSIVE campaign to bring him back on board to entertain us, especially since WE are the PAYING customers who keep the ship afloat. I pray DCL has not lost sight of that fact. Fidelio is one of the huge reasons I have rebooked with DCL. I love Disney but without any fabulous entertainment in the evening for the mature crowd I would rather book on a ship that will have a casino. We were in Off Beat EVERY night having a wonderful time and enjoying the talent. The Rockin Bar D is just too loud for my taste and at least from the times I have cruised on DCL the bands have not been that great. Basically what it comes down to is.......I want Fidelio back just like the rest of you....bring on the campaign, I am ready.

I would love for them to stay too! I can't believe they are taking away this wonderful show!

dianedisney - IF it wasn't for the fact that we are using points for the October and April cruises - you know I'd be easily swayed to cancel my reservations also - I can't imagine a venue that can entertain children to senior citizens being replaced by anything!

Go figure someone somewhere in a position of authority is jealous of his talent and that's why we no longer have Fidelio or Dueling Pianos on the Magic.

It may seem drastic but if the only evening entertainment that everyone loves is gone.....well, so is the Magic.....

WE WANT FIDELIO BACK!

Rae

Hi Rae.....if I hadn't already paid for my Jan cruise in full and have the airline tickets I would rebooking. From reading the different Disney boards posted messages from many different people it sounds to me like this is an internal problem that DCL is having. You know how one person heard this and another heard that type thing. It is really VERY SAD :( that the paying customer is being made to suffer here. I have never heard one complaint on any board about the Dueling Piano's venue or Fidelio. Quite the opposite.....everyone praises his personality and talent. So on that note (no pun intended) I feel DCL and the Cruise Director staff should get their act together decide if they want to please themselves or the paying customer. To me that is a no brainer....this Jan cruise will decide it for me if I want to cruise with DCL again or go with another cruise line. I can always see my favorite mouse ::MickeyMo at WDW. I will now get off my "soap box" but I really felt I had to vent a little...sorry.

Maybe it would help if all the future cruisers held a protest!!! "We want Fidelio! We want Fidelio!!"

- Annie

Ok, ok, I'm more into the theme nights on the ship, but DCL needs to listen to the fans of the cruise on this board. If you REALLY READ THIS, there are too many cruisers who appreCiate this venue. FIND A WAY TO HOME THEM ON THIS CRUISE!!!!!

Another Magic cruiser wrote that they closed Off Beats early and put Fidelio and Anton in the Promenade Lounge for their adult show....

What is wrong with this picture, kiddies?

1) An open public area to do an adult show;
2) Keyboards instead of pianos;
3) Small stage area;
4) ACCOUSTICS!; and
5) Kids able to come to the show with or without parents or just passing by in the hallway.

So what does this do to the Dueling Pianos adult show?

CHANGES IT COMPLETELY!

So how could any cruiser enjoy the talents and venue when the entertainers had their hands tied (so to speak).

Fidelio and DP should show up at the WD Theater as a slightly toned down show replacement. How entertaining would that be for all ages! I envision great audience interaction and a barrel of laughs for all. Weave in some Karaoke...( Gary(OKWmember) are you out there?) and just go with the flow! As it seems the ship venue is out, then the perfect place for Fidelio just might be at Jelly Rolls. :hyper: Or P Island.

WE WANT FIDELIO BACK..please!

Yeah Rae.....you are so right on with your observation. Having Dueling Piano's in the Promenade Lounge just doesn't do them justice. Having the open venue will allow children to see and hear what is going on, but the audience wants their usual adult format....kind of puts the entertainers between a rock and a hard place if you ask me. Whats that old expression...."Da_ned if you do and Da_ned if you don't".

Rock on Fidelio, your the best :teeth:

Exactly - what can you do when you have to play with your hands tied and mouths gagged?
The Promenade Lounge is for LOUNGE singers - you know, backgorund drinking music and maybe a dance or two. As is Sessions - how does one perform rock and roll in a lounge atmosphere?

Interesting that we can all see this but the SUITS can't -
My DH who is a big Fidelio fan says that he wonders whose "nephew" needed a job or who got the kickback from making all the changes???? Of course, there is no truth to this type of talk......remember the Lone Gunmen?

Rae

(sniff, sniff!) Dueling Pianos (especially featuring Fidelio & Anton) will be greatly missed here. On our two cruises, we never used the sports bar but spent lots of time laughing and singing at their entertaining shows. I really do hope Disney will reconsider their decision and maybe add them to the Promenade Lounge as someone on this thread suggested. Good idea! :)

I may be in the minority on this, but here is my observation from the 8/23 cruise......

My wife and I went to see the DP shows twice on this cruise, once by ourselves and once with my sister-in-law and her husband. These were the later shows, starting at 10 or so at night.

Both times there were only between 12 -15 people in Off Beat. Each time we walked in, it felt like we were intruding on a private party. We sat down, ordered drinks and watched the show.

No question, Fidelio & Anton are both talented and gifted piano players. However, at times you could literally hear a pin drop in the room. At other times, Fidelio could be abrasive, if not positively rude to some of the guests. Now maybe this is part of the show, or he had built up a rapport with these guests, but it was painful to watch.

It could also be that my expectations were not realistic. I have been to Jellyrolls at the Boardwalk several times. I expected DP to me a similar type of show. I know if it had been more like Jellyrolls, I would have enjoyed it more.

I've never heard of Fidelio being "abrasive" to anyone - and I've been to over a dozen of his performances on the Magic. But to each his own - Dueling Pianos is an audience participation venue, an entertainer can only do so much.

I've had my entire family at his performances (the child only at the family show) and my Mother (74) is always the one to start laughing and singing and clapping. My usually quiet husband also gets into the fun.

But to each his own, we might be a "minority" here on this forum, but the Fidelio Fan Club goes far beyond this website. So we will continue to ask for the entertainment we want to return.

Have a nice day,

Rae

Rae,
I don't want you to misunderstand my comments..... I very clearly stated that "I may be in the minority ...." I was not referring to you or anyone else, just me.

I was not challenging you or your experiences, just offering my unbiased observation of my experience. In fact, I had been looking forward to seeing this show based on comments I had read here by you, and others. I went to see it twice, in part because I was hoping for a better show.

As I said, Fidelio and Anton are gifted and talented, but the shows I attended were obviously not as well attended, or as good as the shows you were lucky enough to attend. Based on the shows I saw, I would not go again.

Good luck to you and all the other members of the Fidelio Fan Club. I sincerely hope the shows I saw were an aberration and DCL brings them back.

Jim
