We took Granny to eat at Disney, and we are full! UPDTED 11/18 Coral Reef

Time for one more review before the kids all get home from school and I start the dinner/homework/bath nightly routine.

We had a few minutes before the fireworks started and found ourselves on Main Street. I decided we could afford to burn snack credits (we only had 36of them left  ) and we headed to Main Street Bakery.

DD and I tried to go here last year on our MVMCP day and they were already closed. Thankfully, we were early enough this day to get in, and there was hardly anyone else in, and no one in line. We all got bottled waters with a snack credit as well.

DS opted for, what else for a 5 year old boy, an eyeball cupcake. This was after he had already eaten the big chocolate chip eyeball.

DD ordered a chocolate muffin. We didn't realize until we were checking out that it was sugar free. It was not marked on the inside counter very well, but we were assured it was sugar free - they even offered to let her exchange it but she said no. She eats sugar free at my ILs house because they are both diabetic. She LOVED the muffin and ate it all. I tried a bite and it was good.

We sat outside at the tables and looked at people walking by in their costumes. When we were done eating, it was an easy walk up Main Street to the hub for Hallowishes.

I got the ice cream cookie sandwich. That thing was a monster! I peeled off one cookie and wrapped it in napkins and put it in my bag in a Ziploc, and we ate it later in the week. I still couldn't finish the one cookie and ice cream

we are going to CP during MVMCP at 4:45. thanks for sharing.

It's a great time. You can eat a nice dinner and then head out to ride a few rides before the party starts. Enjoy!

Oct 18

I had scheduled a late breakfast at Restaurant Akershus. Since we didn't get back to the room until after midnight, it was nice to sleep in a little, then just hopped on the monorail to Epcot.

Granny was finally able to join us for her first table service meal at Disney! She was so funny with her little autograph book all ready.

First up was the family picture with Belle. We're all standing REALLY far away from Belle, like we were afraid we'd mess up her dress or something. It makes me laugh
img003.jpg

Our waiter gave us a hard time about skipping the cold buffet :) He even offered to go grab us fruit. We aren't huge breakfasts eaters, and when we do, we want the good stuff. We did take a peek at the buffet, and there was a ton of fruits and danishes, smoked salmon.

But this is what we wanted
IMG_2009.jpg

The potato casserole is so good. We always get at least seconds on it. Mom and I split the bacon, the kids split the sausage, and we all had some of everything else.

Our waiter was great. Always making sure we had plenty to eat and drink. I love the fact that he offered to bring the kids fruit from the buffet.

After Belle, we saw Ariel, Jasmine, Cinderella and Snow White. They didn't rush through, but they didn't spend a ton of time either. They were all very friendly, and made sure to include Granny. All the princesses were more than happy to sign her book and take a separate picture with her. They were all great, but is there anything more exciting than the first time you meet Cinderella?

This is our 3rd trip to Akershus, and always a must do. The food is good and filling, we've always good service, and we like character meals to knock out the autographs without having to stand in line. The timing of our meal this day let us get out into the World Showcase right at opening.

I considered making a reservation at Akershus for our trip in March but I hate to pay in advance when I wasn't totally set on my exact dates and if we really wanted to eat there. But, it looks soo good and I'm definitely rethinking it now that I know our definite dates! princess:

Thanks for a wonderful update on Akershus...we never ate there and wanted to try and so glad you guys love it.
Where did you get your son custome of the pit crew?
Thanks

You don't have to pay in advance. You have to give a credit card to hold the reservation, and it just has to be canceled *I think* 24 hours in advance or they charge a fee.

Where did you get your son custome of the pit crew?

I got it at a local Halloween costume store. I've seen it on ebay too.

Because we had eaten a late brunch, we made no plans for lunch. We were in the World Showcase for most of the afternoon, but were too full to try all the Food and Wine Festival samples. My mom did finally cave and get one thing. All these different country booths, and where does my mom go?

America. All these new fun things, and she picks America. Caramel pecan bread pudding. She did say it was really good.

Later in the afternoon the kids wanted a drink, so we let them share a Sprite, and I treated myself to a Bellini
IMG_2063.jpg

There wasn't very much peach to it, bu it was still very good.

Late in the afternoon we knew we needed something to tide us over until dinner. Lucky for us, we were near France. I think I gain 10 lbs just walking in to the bakery there!

We decided to share so that we wouldn't totally spoil our dinners. DS and I are the fruit lovers, so he and I split a strawberry tart
IMG_2084.jpg

The tart was sooo good. The strawberries were fresh and suit, the cookie base was buttery and the filling was light.

Granny and Riley are the chocoholics, and went for the chocolate cake. They were fighting over the last bite, so it must have been good!

Next up: Coral Reef

the strawberry tart is my husband favorite...I just showed him the pictures and he said he'll need to get a couple of that during our trip:lmao:

I usually have at least my dining report done this long after a trip, but I've been busily digitally scrapping our trip in hopes I would have it done for my mom for Christmas. I'm not thinking I'm going to get it done in time, especially since I just stuck my foot in my mouth and volunteered to host Thanksgiving dinner!

Oct 18 Coral Reef

DD and I ate at Coral Reef last November on our mother daughter trip. I came very close to canceling it after reading all the negative reviews, but I knew she would love watching the fish while we ate, so I kept it. We were both glad I did, because it was our second favorite meal.

We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and were seated right away. I asked for a tank side table and said we would gladly wait for one, however, we were led to a second tier seat.

Now, it was really not a big deal. We could have seen things well enough, had we not encountered the behavior of the neighbors seated across the row from us. They were farther away from the tank, which apparently led them to believe that they could allow their kids to go down to the windows, CLIMB UP IN THEM, and stand there.... with HUGE sorcerer Mickey hats on. We couldn't see a thing in the tanks. I felt so sorry for the people who were at tables next to the tank, because the kids were climbing all over them, while the parents sat at the table near us totally ignoring them...and the little boy who was LAYING in the aisle between our table and theirs. They were loud and yelling back and forth, and treating the waitress snotty. It was appalling. Even my kids were astounded because they KNOW that would not be tolerated even at a fast food place in our family. A waitress went over twice to tell them not to stand in the window, and they'd get down, then when she left, they'd climb back up again. Thankfully, once their food arrived, they did stay at their table for a few minutes to argue about eating so we did finally get to see a fish or two.

I apologize for the pictures. I hate using flash in a restaurant.

Mom and I decided since we had to put up with that, a drink was in order :)
I got this. I wish I could remember what it's called. It was very tropical but very sweet.
IMG_2138.jpg

Mom got this because she wanted the glowing ice cube
IMG_2139.jpg

I started with lobster bisque. It wasn't as good as last time...little spicier and not as much lobster, but it was still good.
IMG_2142.jpg

My catch of the day: Sea bass Pan-seared Seasonal Catch - with wild mushroom and bay scallop risotto with celery, root Nage finished with parsley-truffle oil . Last November the catch was grouper. It's a very rich dish, but so good!
IMG_2151.jpg

My mom ordered the Seared Rainbow Trout - with warm salad of white beans, arugula, tomatoes, crispy bacon, aged balsamic vinegar and brown butter . She thoroughly enjoyed it and has dubbed it her favorite meal food-wise.
IMG_2150.jpg

DS ordered the cheese pizza with fruit cup and apple slices. They forgot his apple slices, so we had to ask for them. He also got the green apple smoothie to drink.
IMG_2148.jpg

DD started with lobster bisque, and had the mahi mahi served with broccoli and fries. Her mahi mahi was so TINY, but she ate it all so it must have tasted good.
IMG_2149.jpg

Both kids got make your own sundaes
IMG_2154.jpg

Mom ordered the butterscotch creme brulee which was actually really good
IMG_2155.jpg

and I got my old standby Baileys and Jack Daniels Mousse. So sinful :)
IMG_2156-1.jpg

So, everyone gave Coral Reef a thumbs up for food. The atmosphere was nice, once the table next to us calmed down (and especially when they left!) Our only concern was the waitress. Last year our waiter there was fabulous. This year our waitress wasn't bad, but she wasn't good. She was just there. Not really friendly, but not mean. She was somewhat efficient, but not really fast and definately not memorable.

I enjoyed reading your review with the pictures. We are eating at some of the same restaurants.
