We threw out a wedding gift tonight.

And I am just kind of bummed.

We received a floor lamp from one of DH's groomsmen. He somehow made the connection (I don't recall if it was from a conversation or if he was at our house) that we needed a light for our home.

So, we received this floor lamp for a wedding present from a friend of DH. We really needed this item, and were thrilled to received it. We hadn't registered for any lighting fixtures.

We used this item EVERY SINGLE day that we are home. The only days we haven't used it were days we were on vacation, or the rare day were we got home to late in the evening to sit down in the family room.

And now, almost married for 17 years, the lamp, sad to say, needed to be replaced.

We've got other wedding gifts that we still enjoy,but none have been used to the extent this one has been used.

That was nice you had the lamp for so many years. I understand you're bummed, but at least you had very many years with it.

Had the lamp quit working or just did it need a revamp?
We've got one that I bought (floorlamp) back in '82 or '84 during my single
apartment days. It was brass with a maroon shade. About two years ago, I got really, really tired of it and spray painted it with a dull gold (almost antique) finish and bought a really nice lampshade for it. It doesn't even look like the old lamp now.
If i don't point it out to people they don't even know it's the same lamp.

What needed to be replacd? If the socket finally blew out, that can easily be rewired or replaced. same with any of the wiring or plug. So you can still keep the frame part of the lamp intact and change any electrical stuff easily.

I would tell him the next time you talk to him that it was one of your best loved gifts and that you've had it this long. I bet he'll be pleased to know it meant that much to you and that you used it for such a long time.
