Our afternoon started on a high note, we opened our mailbox and saw an envelope with a return address of ABD. This being our first ABD trip and we are at the deadline for our final payment we were extremely eager to see what we received. Inside was a very nice foldout with a bold "Tell your friends. Pack your bags. Grab your camera. It's time to adventure together." printed on the front. We couldn't wait to open it to see what exciting information about our upcoming Peru trip was inside. Well it was a bit of a let down, inside was a fun filled letter letting us know that the CDC issued a travel advisory due to the Zika virus. Oh well, back to the countdown for departure.

I commend ABD for being proactive in warning about this nasty disease. So much is still unknown and it behooves everyone to be extra cautious in all areas where it is found. Use insect repellent and heed the CDC warnings. Fore warned is fore armed. Just focus on the positive and being told what is going on in the area of travel is pretty positive in my estimation.

Fyi....ABD doesn't usually send anything in the mail regarding your trip, except the trip box. Most other stuff is via email.

Just for the record, we did not see any mosquitos on our trip to Peru. Not sure when you are going, so that may be a factor. We went Oct 2012. We did just go to Brazil this past March. In our week and a half there, we saw two mosquitos, yup, just two. I know Zika is a major concern, but to be honest, after actually being there, I am not concerned at this time. But that is just me.

We went to Peru in March and we also did not see any mosquitoes. You hear a lot about sand flies at Machu Picchu and we didn't see any of those either. Doesn't hurt to have bug spray, just in case.

We're there at the end of September for the adult only trip. The annual air temps are typically between 30s to 60s so we aren't overly concerned about bugs of any kind. I suspect we'll be bundled up most of the time anyway. Anything below 60 degrees is freezing for us warm blooded southerns.
