Everyone was disparaging DVC's web site. Getting run down and all. There was griping. Someone thought Disney was using DVC software designers on other Disney sites

Now we know they were developing a NEW and improved site.

ooooo the magic! Can't wait until May 4th.

:bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:

The magic of a new web site like the slide at OKW will be reflected in our annual dues. WDW has nothing to do with DVC. We get something we pay for it, not the patrons of WDW. They will give you whatever you want if you are willing to pay for it. Judging from posts on this site a lot of new members on this site can not afford too much.

I can't wait...there are never enough pics or info for this addict!!!
I am anxiously awaiting May 4!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think that DVC did an evaluation of cost versus potential savings for the online system? Would that information be available to members? It seems there would be significant potential savings if members are managing their accounts online. I'm not sure that the new online system will increase dues in the long run.

I agree, if we can do a lot of things ourselves on-line versus calling in, they could potentially save some $$$$ by employing less real people.

I'm not sure of a cost savings, its more a cost shifting. The cost will shift from member services to IT professionals to maintain the website and possibly purchase additional software applications with maintenance fees to maintain the software. I like the idea of a better member website. but, I'll be surprised if the DVC maintenance fees are not impacted.

An analogy from the world of Banking: When ATMs were introduced in the 1980s, everyone thought that the banks would need fewer people working in the branches. But in fact, branch employment is up >25% since that time, even tho most folks do most of their banking business by ATM, computer and phone now. What has happened is that the introduction of ATMs allowed the branch employees to cease doing the mundane tasks, and instead focus on value added activities. So now the ATMs do the grunt work of branch banking, and the branches focus on doing more valuable things, like offering retirement products, making new kinds of loans and other financial products available to consumers. Customer just get more from their banks now, and only deal with people for the more complex issues.

So at DVC, an improved interface for us members will give the CMs the ability to offer more and better services. I don't know exactly how it will work, but I think we'll find we may be using them for a larger portion of our vacation planning, perhaps allowing them to function more as our travel agent than simply reservations takers.

Lets see what they come up with before we get too excited. DVC is still behind the times with no online info/access and no saturday hours.

And when does the 11/7 month window start - 12:00:01 AM EST? I hope they buy enough servers to handle the rush when everyone logs on at midnight to make their ressies!

Marriott holds them until the phones are open, at least so they say.
