Update

well I just got off the phone with guest services...and I was able to downgrade to the CBR! I truly fell so much better....
the final savings came to $630! If I'm not mistaken...around a $50 difference from the $700 savings at a value...I guess I was getting ripped off!!
The only All Star availble was the Music...which doesn't appeal to us...so I was glad to get teh CBR...

Thankyou for all your help!

After recent events...I really need to change my reservation from the YC to a moderate or value...the extra money saved will go along way....
I contacted disney with my questions...and found out that for $700 less we can move to the one of the All Stars...
we booked the FTP for 1 adult, 2 juniors for the week of 8/23...I can't remember the price qouted unfortunalty...
For some reason...a $700 difference seems low to me...is it just me...I know theres a changing fee...but still...

Also...would you personally down-grade all the way to an All Star...or just a moderate?
I'd like this to be a relaxing vacation....and since we have all been down before...were in no rush to see anything...with exception to Mission Space...I just can't picture myself "relaxing" one afternoon at the All Stars...

Has any done this...
any help or info would be appreciated

The All satrs are nice, and I would stay there rather than off site for sure, and we will be staying there (2 adults 2 children) for two nights at the end of a 5 nights trip to Old Key West , we personally like them. But you are right, they are not exactly relaxing. A moderate would be better if you want relaxing in my opinion. The All Stars seem to be over-run with people, all of the time, and lots of kids. The Food Court is almost chaotic at meal times, but if you plan on eating in the parks, and you plan on only being there to sleep then they will be fine! $700 is quite a bit of money, and for that then I think I would do it, but if you can swing a moderate, then I would do that an save maybe $450 instead. This is a vacation after all! Another option is to stay at an AllStar and end your vacation with 1 or 2 nights at the YC for DD b-day. Switching hotels is easy and it might be the perfect end to the trip and a happy compromise to the $$ situation!

Have you already called Disney to downgrade your reservation?

I have heard of people being offered specials when they call to change or cancel to something lower in price. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but it might. I guess you could ask if they have any specials right now.

I would try and do a moderate if you can. There is nothing wrong with the All Stars but I would go for a moderate.

Yes, the $700 difference does sound kind of small but I don't know all the specifics of your reservaiton.

Is your reservation paid in full? Have you looked at all the possibilites like cancelling and then booking a room only package or does that end up costing you more money? Are AP rates out for the time you are going? Would it be a huge hassle to have to get a refund? Have you looked at all the different ways to save money?

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Since FTP is over I don't know if your new pkg was FTP but when I was pricing the packages the difference in price for 2 adults no kids was about $700 total from Deluxe to Moderate.
about $1800 for deluxe and about $1100 for moderate.

this was for FTP for 7 nights in Sept. :)

The quote of $700 difference between the YC and the value resorts is correct. You are checking-in on 8/23, which is value season for the deluxe resorts, but it's regular season for the values and moderate resorts. So, the rack rate for the YC for your nights is $289 per night and the rack rate for the values is $99 per night. If you take the difference and multiply it by 4 (that's the number of nights for a 7 night stay you were charged for) you get $780, and there is a change fee of $50 I believe. If you decide to downgrade to a moderate the rack rate is $144, resulting in a savings of $500 probably. Using those calculations, and the fact you want to really be able to relax a little, I'd stay in a moderate. To me, it's worth the extra $200 for the nicer grounds and ammenities a moderate will give you over a value!!

Hmmm... 700.00 to switch from Deluxe to Value does not sound like enough money somehow.

Lets look at it in reverse..

Could someone with a value resort FTP upgrade to the Yacht Club for $700.00 - that soulds like a good deal - only 100.00 a day, 30.00 a day per person for the deluxe hotel.

I think you should double check the rates you are being given.

Good Luck - and I agree if you are looking for some peace and relaxation you might be better at one of the moderates, from what I hear the Values are very busy places.

CRITICAL TIP!!!

Not sure your check in date but by your countdown it looks like the 23rd?? The 23rd is still Regular season at the Moderate and Value resorts. The 24th begins Value season. They price your entire stay based on the check-in. Therefore you're paying Reg rate even on Value days. They are not giving you 1 night at Reg$$ and the others at Value$$. You can easily overcome this by making 2 seperate reservations. We do this for our August trips around the same time. You don't have to checkout of the room at all. You just have to go to the front desk at some point for the paperwork. PM if you have any questions.

I don't think separate reservations will work since OP has FTP.

I am not sure if you can do the separate reservation thing on the FTP. But it does not hurt to check.... this is a great tip if you are booking room only though :p

thanks for all your help guys...

we traveled this time last year...and booked seperate reservations...one night AKL....6 nights CB....for the reasons mentioned above....
with the AP we got a great deal at the AKL...and with CB at value season it saved money...
I figured that with the FTP I didn't need to do this...as we checked several weeks before and after the date...and the price was the exact same...
I could be mistaken though...

$700 does seem low to me as well....I really wish I could fine how much the total price was...for both the All Stars...and YC...but when jel5011 did the math it made sence....thanks for doing that by the way...:p

I guess I'm still debating...whether to suck it up and stay at the YC...or to down grade...
I'll give CRO a call later this weekend...as our trip is coming fast...
I'm nervous the moderates will be sold out for rooms...
I checked the week on disney with the DM package and only POR showed up...(would prefer to stay at CSR or CBR)

Thank you agian!

Boston-Yachter, you can go on Disney's web site, reservations and figure out what the FTP would be for each resort.

You go into Book Package; Custom Package. Enter 4 day stay starting at your arrival
Give number of adults/children
Choose Dreammaker package
Choose YC and then the room level you had booked
At the quote, you may need to remove the insurance if you didn't have that. You'll see the price of YC equilivent to FTP.

Then, hit Change Resorts, and pick your allstar. You'll then get that quote.

I used this when gettting FTP thru DU and had the price to the penny before they told me.

Hope this helps...Sharon

Could someone with a value resort FTP upgrade to the Yacht Club for $700.00 - that soulds like a good deal - only 100.00 a day, 30.00 a day per person for the deluxe hotel.

Except with the FTP you are only paying for 4 out of the 7 days (the other 3 are "free"), aren't you? So the reverse upgrade would be $175 a day, for one adult, two juniors. A $700 savings for 4 days sound reasonable to me.

$700 is a lot of money, weather you have money or not.

That could pay for all your meals and souvenirs during your trip.

I would, however, downgrade to a moderate and save the $500. $500 is still a lot of money to save.

I don't think that $200 to upgrade to a moderate is that much money, but $500 (or $700) to upgrade to a deluxe is a lot of money.

IF money is tight, change the ressie and save yourself some money, you will feel better now, be happier when you are there, and not regret it when you get back.

I priced things out on the Disney site based on Dreammake package, 8/23 arrive, 4 nights, one adult, 2 jrs, no insurance:

YC std view: 2094
All Star sts: 1249
All Star Preferred: 1294
Dixie Landings Std: 1482

They will probably apply a $50 change fee.

Personally, I'd go into a moderate and pocket the 550 and wouldn't want to stay at allstars. I realize they are decent but for 7 nights vacation, I want more than decent. But if the allstar price is still best, then might consider offsite or DTD. There are some great deals there.

Hope everything works out...Sharon

Maybe you are right... it is a hard thing to figure out - it just sounds like such a low amount from deluxe to value - oh well, Math was never my strong suit. :)

Yep-that is eactly the reson-the FTP package was buy 4 nights, get 3 free. That was how they advertised it, that was truly what it was. We had 7 nights at the ASMo reserved for $1359 for 2 adults and 2 children, I think juniors were about $30 more a piece, so if you wanted to compare package to package, compare the YC package now with the $1409 for the FTP at ASMo and maybe it is a lot more than $700 which is why it sounds so low. $700 more is $100 a night-still a great deal to jump to the YC, but you are not getting the FTP which was the best deal.
