We need some Pixie Dust (*Update*)

***Well My landlord never called us back but they sent yet another person out to assess the damage with the furnace. This new guy said the same thing that they both need alot of work. This guy is one of my landlords *Friends* probably one of those idiots that he used to put them in. He said nothing about fixing them or anything just that he was going to call my landlord back and tell him what he saw..Grrrr!! Now I have a feeling they are going to blame this on us and cause us more problems like I don't have enough...UGH!!!***


Well in recent months things have steadily gone down hill for us. Just when we thought things would begin to look up we took another 3 steps back. The heat in my house has been working one minute and dead the next. Repeatedly DH has gone to the landlord and told her and her comment was to have the oil company come and service it. We have no contract for service other than for them to change the oil filters which since I rent is what the company told us we were responsible for we don't own it and we are not responsible for the equipment. Finally today we got our landlord to have someone come and look at the heaters When we ran out of hot water this morning. The man came and RED TAGGED(shut off) both furnaces in our basement. basically he said they are both Shot and unsafe and for one he wouldn't touch them to service them. We have been running space heaters and it is keeping the house and a comfortable level as long as you are in certain rooms. I am not comfortable with them and I don't even dare leave them on if I got out to the mailbox. My landlord convienently went away for the weekend and has not yet called us back since we left the message with the results of the servicemans findings. Can ya'll please just send us alittle PD so things get fixed fast and I don't have to bother anyone for a shower for too long. My DH's friend who has sunday breakfast with us every week with his daughter is letting us use his shower as much as we need but I hate to put him out for long. I just needed to rant. Thanks

YOu seriously need to see it there is a landlord/tenant commision type thing in your town. If you have a "red tag", your landlord may be in violation of a law there. And how much is your electric bill going to go up with those space heaters.

I hope your landlord takes care of these problems for you real soon. You shouldn't be without heat or hot water. Aren't there laws in your state that protect tenants when such problems come up?

Well as far as I know being red tagged means that our local fire department is notified that we were shut off in case we decide to turn the furnace back on and there is a fire. It is Not likely are DH going to go mess with anything we don't know about. We are going to give my Landlord til Monday to get back to us about it being fixed. I think that is fair enough time for her to contact us. If she doesn't Tuesday morning we are going to call the Local Plumbing inspector to come out and see the house. He will then make a record of the stuff in violation and then issue something to them saying they have so much time to get the furnaces fixed. This is all I know right now. With Dorian in the house we will have a much easier time getting action. If it gets too cold we can always bring him to my mothers but he will miss school since she is about an hour south of me, but I am not going to leave him here if it is too cold. The school will have to deal with it. I am just a complete wreck about it and doing everything to keep me from worring...Well I worry alot anyway...

I a so sorry that this is happening to you....like most "breakdowns" or emergencies they always seem to occur on a weekend making you endure it that much longer. It sounds like you are on the right road to resolving it legally, but that doesn't do much to help you now.. The only other suggestion I have is to call the lanlord leaving a message, and call your firestation and police station telling them that with a child you can't stay there and check into a hotel and the lanlord be billed for it. I guess I am thinking that because when our place flooded and we needed to be out for some of the repair work (we had no kitchen or floor) we stayed at an extended stay type hotel and homeowners ins. covered it. I know renting is different, but just a thought, especially if it isn't handled in a reasonable amount of time. With todays technology, the lanlord should be in contact with you within hours, not days! Maybe the police will have a suggestion?

I hope it gets sraightened out soon for you and your family. I would not wait. You have a child in the house, and I am pretty sure that your landlord has to do something NOW!!! She can not leave you guys cold..I think you should tell her no heat then no rent...

I am sorry, maybe I am drastic, but a person like that needs to be treated like they are treating, and it has been way to cold for you guys to go through this.
