I know my Dis friends can help! So here gos.

My DD is almost 7.5. In height, she wears about an 8. In waist, she needs something more along the lines of a 10 or 12. The other problem she is having (and she takes after me) is that she is long waisted, which means that MOST pants sit very, very low on her.

I'm really about at my wit's end. On top of that, she is very particular about how things feel.

Any of you out there with the same problem? If so, where do you go? She LOVES Justice clothes, but doesn't have good luck w/ bottoms there. We have been to JCP, Kohl's, Target.

Currently, she mainly wears leggings and just the stretchy cotton pants, but I'd really like for her to get into some nicer clothes like khakis and jeans (not holding my breath re: jeans though!).

Thanks guys!!!

In the past, I have had good luck with Sears plus size for my DD10 (she's a 10 height and 14 waist). You might also want to try Lands End.

Good luck. Often my DD wears sweat pants because of the jeans problem.

I just want to commiserate. My D11 has a small waist and big thighs and hips. She also has very long legs. Her waist is a 10, her hips and thighs a 12, and her length is a 14. :confused3

I think I am going to buy her a lot of skirts with warm tights for this winter. I cannot deal with jeans anymore!

My DD (7 next month) is built similarly. I buy Lands End plus sizes. Sometimes I can get away with Gymboree or Gap plus sizes too. FYI: LE runs a little long. Even tho I love to sew, I detest hemming. I have been known to buy a size 12 capri and DD wears it as jeans or ankle length pants.

Good luck.

Not much help, but I've got sympathy. I hate pants! But DD, who's always chosen dresses/skirts before, is now choosing jeans. We've been to all sorts of stores and nothing that fits in the length fits in the height. And why is there like a 2" different in pant length between 7 and 8???

Are you looking in husky sizes or regular? JCP's got the 1/2 sizes still - I don't know if they're cut longer or not.

I'd think that you maybe need someplace with more of a classic kids perspective. A belly-button-hitting pant will probably be lower on your daughter, so you probably want something longer, right? What about Children's Place? I seem to remember that their styles sit differently at DD's waist. Does WalMart carry classic Levi's?

Good luck!

My DD6 is exactly the same! I learned about Crazy 8 from a poster on here a few months ago. Their plus size jeans are the best I have ever found! Way better than Children's Place, Sears, JCP, or Lands End, at least in my experience (and it seems like we had tried everything.) I hope they work as great for you as they do for us!

My daughter is similar. Her waist is a little bigger, but not big enough for plus size. I buy lots of Lands End. I watch the overstocks all the time, keep stuff in my cart, and wait for free shipping codes. She has tons of the yoga flares - much nicer than Target leggings. LE plus is big everywhere - legs are just swimming on her, so we can still do regular. They also have a pair of jeans with an elastic section on the back of the waist. They were on sale this past weekend for $15.

We've also been able to get the Circo brand of chino style pants at Target and their cords. The waist is adjustable and they don't fit as tight/run as small as their jeans. I do usually have to hem them though. :(

Where we did capris as long pants. Then when she started to slim out they fit as capris, so she got about 3years of wear out of them. We mostly did Osh Kosh.

OMG, I have EXACTLY
the same problem.
Circo jeans from Target, size 10 work well.
Size 12 from Gymboree or Children's Place and Size 12 from Osh Kosh...unfortunately they need to be hemmed, fortunately for us, my MIL is free.
I have found an 8 plus is usually way too big in the waist, but we got some as hand me downs (Gap Brand) and they are OK with the adjustable waist.

For those who hate to hem (me included). I found stitch witchery to work extremely well. Just fold to the perfect length, cut pieces to fit, spray with water, iron, and then let dry.

Also Mighty mend it works well too in a pinch or when I can't find the other. Being 4'10" nothing fits. Poor DD5 is going to be super short too.

Hope this helps.

I would suggest that you try the 1/2 sizes at JCP. My dd likes the Arizona jeans because they stretch and have an adjustable waist. She has a bit of a tummy issue too and HATED wearing jeans until we found these. She also found a pair at justice that she liked because it had a nit top (like a sweat suit) but jean bottoms. Good luck!

I'm so glad to see that I'm not alone in this!!! Thanks for all the great feedback. I haven't been to Children's Place for a while except to look at tops, so that's a possibility. I had also heard about Gymboree's sizes, but I just can't pay their prices and we don't have a store that carries the older kids' sizes. And like other posters, I HATE sewing. I have used that whip stitchery before, and it worked pretty well.

I am thinking about the idea someone had about skirts and heavy tights for the winter. She loves pink and black right now, and I know she can fit into the Justice skirts so that's a nice possibility. :)

Great thread everyone!!!

My DD is the same build and she hates to wear jeans/pants or whatever. She loves skirts and dresses only. So I have to buy really thick tights or pant leggings for her to wear in the winter.

Yes, at 7 she cares what she wears and says pants hurt her (pulls down) when she sits down.

So while we've also talked about dresses, skirts, tights, I wanted to find out where your favorite places are to find the thicker tights for the winter months? My DD has worn tights before but it's been a while. Would want a kind that has a nice comfy waistband and doesn't roll down on her.

I've bought DD's cable tights from Gap, Lands End, and Macy's. Whenever I see them I buy how many they have in my DD's size. That way we have them in different colors all winter.

I swear by the Gymboree Plus sizes. crazy 8 is their sister store which is cheaper. right now the Gymboree stores are 25% off of everything and then in parents mag there is a 20% coupon you can stack. If you get added to their email list you will find they are always running sales and you can do relaly well and be really happy with clothes that fit and are great quality. (oh and they have re-sale value!)

My dd (8) has the same problem. I hem, but I assembly-line it..first I measure the inseam, then sit and cut the excess fabric off all the pairs (6 this past time), then roll up and iron them all, then sit and sew them all. It still bites, but I can usually get them all done in an hour. Definitely going to have to look into Crazy 8's though :)
