With less than a month till our trip, my DH and I are seriously considering bringing our neices and nephew along. So we would go from one kid to four. But they are good kids and have never been to DW (or anywhere for that matter) so we think it is worth the trouble and $$.

Their ages are 4, 6, 10, and 11.

So my questions are:

I remember the campgroud having afternoon activities. Will we get a schedule at check-in or do I need to do research before we leave?

Has anyone done the horseback riding? Is it worth the money?

Will the older ones like the campfire program? My 4 year old loved it.

Any activities we shouldn't miss?

Anybody got a 10 or 11 year old- I need tips.:confused3 I want the trip to be as special as possible.

I'll give it a whirl! I think it's a great idea to take all the kids. :) Very sweet of you!

IDK if you get a schedule when you check in- someone else will have to answer that one.

Horseback riding- I'd say it's only worth the money if the kids will not be able to ride horses any other place/any other way. If they can, or have, it might be a disappointment- but if they haven't.. then yes it's worth it! (all i'm saying is that like my kids- we've owned horses before, my sister still does, they can take riding lessons, have rode horses at camp, etc. so this horseback riding/walk won't be a big deal to them and not worth the money. But if that's not the case for your kids you're taking- then go for it they'll probably love it!)

I think the older ones will like the campfire- mine always have. Now they might not like the choice of movie that night- depending on their tastes. But the overall atmosphere, singalong before the show, seeiing Chip and Dale, roasting marshmallows around the campfire and/or making smores.... most kids like it. :)

The older kids (yet not TOO old or whatnot to think it's "lame") should enjoy the new pool slide! I've read you don't slide down too fast but younger kids and pre-teens should really like it. :)

Have you looked into doing the Hoop de doo Revue? I'm guessing the kids would get a kick out of it? Atleast I hope so- we're doing it this time on our upcoming trip! LOL

I believe horseback riding is still 9 and older. Believe me, I have been taking kids that age for many years, they will enjoy all of it. As always, most all kids will love the pool..

Has anyone done the horseback riding? Is it worth the money? We've never done this but like mentioned if you have NEVER ridden then it's worth it.

Will the older ones like the campfire program? My 4 year old loved it. Oh yes! Like mentioned-it depends on the move shown. We bring our own chairs and blanket to lay on especially for the nights of double features.

Any activities we shouldn't miss? YES! Electric water pagent at Bay Lake, Fireworks at Bay Lake, take the boat, walk to bike over to Wilderness Lodge for ice cream/snack, see the horses in the stable, rent a golf cart and drive around the loops (go looping)-the kids just love to ride in the cart, swim at the pool and newly added slide and splash zone:worship:, get an icy @ Meadows, if affordable-Backyard BBQ or Hoop Dee Doo Review (these are favorites at any age), hayride (without the hay)...I'm sure there is more I'm forgetting

Anybody got a 10 or 11 year old- I need tips. I want the trip to be as special as possible. yes, I have a DD11..DS9 and loves all the above, ride bikes and ripstick around loop. Hangs out at playground as well. Since we're going in the summer we get the water park passes after 2p (this way we can enjoy the Ft. and cool off for both or one water park). It's too warm for us in the theme parks plus our seasonal passes are blocked for summer;)

Hope this helps!:yay:

That is so sweet of you! I think it sounds like a fantastic idea! As the parent of an only child, I hope that someday I can take some of my neices and nephews along with my son to Disney. That would be a blast!

I'm still not sure about the horseback riding. The older kids have never rode a horse before but we can do that anywhere/anytime. If there is nothing special about riding at Disney, then we might skip it.

All the kids love to swim. I'm sure they won't see the slide as lame no matter how slow it is. :)

I'm fairly sure we won't be able to get Hoop de Doo tickets this close to our trip but I'm going to try and hope for a cancellation.

Thanks for your help.

Very helpful! I completely forgot about the movie after the campfire!

What's the best resort to watch Wishes and the Electric Water Pagent from?

I need to check into the Backyard BBQ since I have never heard of it. Again, I doubt we will be able to get tickets for anything this close to the trip.

Is the hayride like the carriage ride?

Thanks. We are soooo excited! My DD loves her cousins.:lovestruc

I say go for it.

It seems like I always end up with a stray niece, nephew, or a DD's BFF on my trips to the Fort, and it has always been great. The more the merrier! When we have a newbie along, the DD's have a great time serving as Fort ambassadors.

And these days, it is hard for kids to spend quality time with their cousins. If these nieces and nephews have never been to WDW, they will remember this trip for the rest of their lives! And, what a bonding experience for the cousins.

Don't worry about activities. There are plenty of organized activities. And, I promise you these kids will have a blast with the unorganized activities as well (tether ball, basketball, shuffleboard, playing on the beach, the pool, splash zone, playgrounds, exploring, etc., etc.)

Do it!

I tnink its great that you are taking them......and definitely worth the money and hassle....lol Before we had kids we took our neices who were 12 and 14 for their first visit. They absolutely loved it, and so did we. We got to learn so much more about them and them about us. Their mom was a single mom at the time and struggling to make it, but always being able to help out others so we thought we would something special for her girls because they never once would complain about anything. Anyway..........I say go foe it and from what I have read there will be plenty to do at the fort!!!! Have a great time....just promise to post pics and a report when you get back!

What's the best resort to watch Wishes and the Electric Water Pagent from? Ft. Wilderness of course...

I need to check into the Backyard BBQ since I have never heard of it. Again, I doubt we will be able to get tickets for anything this close to the trip. Backyard BBQ is a character meal at the Ft. in the pavillion. You never know about reservations-lots of people are cacelling all the time.

Is the hayride like the carriage ride? well, not sure. I know the hayride is cheaper and my kids love it.;)

We have always taken extra kids, my husband has two much young siblings and we took them before we had our own daughters. We figure the more the merrier! Have Fun!

I just wanted to pop in to say that I read your TR yesterday (which was great by the way) which ended with you wanting to plan another trip but getting some resistance. So happy to see that you talked DH into it....just a few months later no less! Congrats & enjoy!

Keep in mind that these are simply my opinions,,also keep in mind I'm just a big kid.
#1,,yes, they give you a schedule at check in,,but we do all the resaerch we can before we go ANTWHERE.

#2,,We have done the horse ride a few times,,I believe the kids will love it.

#3,,EVERYONE loves the campfire !

#4,,activities,,yes, bring your fish'n poles and go fishing, :thumbsup2

have a great time and take pictures !

We told them yesterday!!! I thought the 6 year old was going to hyperventilate! She was so happy. It was her Birthday (she's 7 now). We made a fake ticket and wrapped it. I had the other kids "tickets" handy. We thought they would say, "No fair! Why does she get to go." but instead they were so happy for her and didn't even ask about themselves. They were telling her how lucky she was how much fun she is going to have. When I handed the other two their tickets, they were so shocked and thankful.

Only one problem, in all the excitement I forgot about my own kid (the 4 year old)! :scared1: I was enjoying the older kid’s excitement and I looked down and my 4 year old had tears rolling down her cheeks. She thought we were going without her!:guilty: Once we gave her a ticket, she recovered quickly but I can't believe she thought we would go to Disney without her. :confused3

Thanks. DH caved pretty quickly. He's a kid at heart.

Fishing! The kids would love that. Thanks for the advice.

Our thoughts exactly! It will be crazy with that many kids but a great time.

Their mom was a single mom at the time and struggling to make it, but always being able to help out others so we thought we would something special for her girls because they never once would complain about anything.

These kids don't complain about anything either. Like I said, they are great kids and deserve a trip to Disney. They are always thankful for anything and everything.
