This is from Drudge. I don't if any of you saw the news conference with the Iraqi information minister early this morning, but I saw a very angry, scared man. I don't think we got many of the higher ups during the Golf War. This time we've brought it to the top immediately. I guess they know we're serious now. Let's hope this report is correct.

CBS: 'Senior Officials' Think Saddam May Not Have Survived

"I am being told by several senior officials not to take that taped speech Saddam gave last night as proof that he survived the attack," CBS NEWS reporter David Martin said on air.

"They say the evidence that put him in the bunker last night was very reliable, and they are confident that the cruise missiles and bunker-busting bombs that were fired at that bunker last night hit the target. So now, intelligence experts are studying the tape to determine if it is really Saddam, or a body double which he is known to use from time to time. And they are running a computerized voice analysis, comparing that speech with known recordings of Saddam's voice. But that's a process that takes awhile. So we may not have a quick answer."

"There is considerable belief in this government that they may, in fact, have gotten Saddam."

I too just heard that the person speaking was not Saddam, that it was one of his many doubles. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully they did get him and maybe this war can end real soon.

The BBC was saying that is was Saddam making the speech.

A couple of items off of the MSNBC web site....................

ALTHOUGH IRAQI television showed Saddam speaking to the nation shortly after Wednesday’s strikes, U.S. officials suspect it might have been a double. They noted that the person in the video was wearing glasses and reading from a notepad — habits not associated with Saddam

U.S. intelligence officials suspect the appearance might have been previously recorded, noting as evidence a brief freeze in a frame.

Not to rain on any parades here, and I HOPE we got him. But until the remaining senior leadership of Iraq steps aside and lets us in we still have a problem. As long as "they" continue in those footsteps either he isn't gone, injured perhaps, or they believe in his program so totally he might as well still be in place.

As for the glasses...I have heard before on various analytical reports that Saddam normally wants his speech well in advance so he can memorize it and then appear to be speaking. And not wearing glasses. That speech played pretty quickly - time to write it but not memorize it. He is of an age that would need reading glasses.

According to the White House Briefing going on right now, they wont say either way whether it is or isnt Saddam, or if it was prerecorded. Basically they are saying they dont know yet.

*edited to add... Now Petter Jennings is saying they are pretty sure they didnt get him.

I think it's him, but I also think it was prerecorded.
