We are dvc and LOVE IT. Are fav resorts are okw and VB. This year we are a bit shy on points as we will be going in aug instead of sept. (wow what a point difference) anyway we are used to staying in a ibed and will be for the vb week of our stay but for the okw part we will be in a studio and we will have to buy $600 worth of one time use points from disney. Our trip is at the same time as free dining. We do not usually get the dp however we were wondering about staying at pofq and taking advantage of free dining seeing as we don't have enough points anyways? But my kids love the pool activities that they have at the dvc pools. Is this a a dvc thing or do they have the activities at all the reports? I hate the heat so we will be doing very little park time and mostly pool time.

We stayed at car once and enjoyed it but it was pre dvc and my kids were so little that they were happy with a pail and shovel in the sand for hours.

any dvc'rs still like to visit moderate? or forgo the free dining and just stay at okw with purchasing one time use points?

Math isn't my strong point, but I'm not sure you CAN buy $600 worth of one-time use points...I thought you could buy up to 15 of those points, at $15/point...So, at $15/point, if you're planning on spending $600, I think maybe you are going to want to buy more of those one-time points that the cap will allow???

Anyway, if you can't buy enough one-time use points, then the question is moot...it's been years since we stayed at Port Orleans (or any other mod) and when we did they didn't have the pool activities that the DVC resorts offer...but as noted, it's been 15 years or so since we've done a mod...

You might want consider seeking a points transfer (or rental) if it turns out that you need 40 points and that Disney won't "sell" you that many one-time use points...that's like to be a less expensive alternative, too...

Good luck!

thanks I had forgotten all about the cap. I guess I need to re-think things....thanks for pointing that out. Well back to the drawing board...wish I could get my points to multiply.

I thought I read you could buy up to 24 or 25 one time use points? I'm gonna have to check again.

Edit....Just looked it up. 24 extra points per year is the cap. Still not $600 worth :).

I would never choose free dining and a mod over DVC if there was another option. The pool activities aren't as fun. My kids also loved the pool party at the OKW. :thumbsup2 Before DVC we stayed at the POR twice and while the pool had fun lifeguards, the party and prizes didn't compare.

Why not rent from someone in the rent/trade section?

We stayed at POR 2012, and were surprised to see regularly scheduled games at the main pool just like at the DVC resorts. They also had an outdoor movie set up between two of the mansions. It was a little cold for that most nights. When we're out of points, and we need to get away, we head for POR. :)

I just did a similar thing - all my points are booked up for this year and wanted to do a quick 4 night trip over Presidents weekend with DGrD8. One of her favorite things is the pool parties and we were mostly going just to feel some sunshine and swim. Well, this very spoiled, DVC villa and deluxe resort loving 'Oma' came across a great AP rate at POP Century and very hesitantly booked there.
We had an AWESOME time - loved the POP (surprise surpise! lol) and the CMs at the pool were FABULOUS!! There were games, prizes, dances - for hours every day (I think it was 3 - 6) - DGrD was in heaven and made some friends - so, yes, looks like all levels of resorts now do the pool parties - and do an excellent job with them - there was no difference in the games/prizes at POP than we had experienced at AKL last October.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
They also had movies at the main pool every night.

Thanks for the feedback that is great ro hear I think I will go ahead and book
