...we did have some issues. We stayed at the Polynesian June 11-15. We've stayed there 3 times in the past 1 1/2 years. We love the whole feel of the resort and its always a thrill to drive up and tell the attendant we're checking in as the monorail cruises by above.
We love Kona for breakfast.
We love the tropical music outside.
We love the rooms.
We love the grounds.
We love the marina.
We love the quiet pool.
We love the boat to MK.

This trip a few things bugged me. At check-in (8:00 am) they put us in a patio room and I nicely mentioned that we really, really, would like a balcony instead as we had requested (not guaranteed-I know).in Fiji. He said there was nothing available. He said I had booked a garden view and Fiji was water view. I said I was pretty sure it was not (I knew it was not). He said it would be an upgrade but there was no availability. okay- So I asked for a few more locations Samoa -Tokelau and he said there was nothing. Oh then he found one in Tahiti which I didn't really want. So I just stood there looking at him in disbelief. I coulnd't bring myself to say we'd just take whatever room. Finally, another CM came over and asked if she could help. My CM said no. I said I was having trouble getting a room. She asked what I wanted and I told her my first choice. She pushed some keys on her computer and gave my my dream room Fiji- 3319. Why was that so difficult? Yikkes! She then apologized to my CM and said she had access to some things he didnt'. Whatever!
Another thing was that the pool bar wasn't open as often as I think it should have been. It's summer, it's hot, it's crowded, I want a Lava Flow and it's closed. Bummer. I also am always disappointed with the staff at Bare Foot Bar. This time they were just as bad. Why are they so annoyed to get you a drink?
The last thing was no big deal but I was wondering why you always have to call housekeeping for a fridge and then an overworked little old man brings it to you and you feel so sorry for him you want to carry it in the room yourself. ( okay , i guess that's just my experience #3 times.)
These are just our observations that I am reporting because I love to read when others report their experiences. While I think we are over staying at Poly, we will always love to eat and spend time there. (Well I might have to sneak in one visit to see the new rooms) :flower:

Thank you for your report. It is informative to hear about all types of experiences-good and bad. ;)

awww I always feel sad when I see over-worked staff...especially older ones. It makes me think that these are their golden years and they should be enjoying them, not carrying heavy mini-fridges :guilty:

WHY DOESN'T THE POLY HAVE A HOT TUB???!!!

We ate dinner at Ohana and I could tell that DS14 was sticken with the place. He's a big reader and he wanted to be in one of those hammocks on the beach. BUT I'm a big hot tub lover, esp. after walking all day.

I love all the things you listed about the Polynesian too. :sunny:

Were you able to get in your "dream room" at 8am? If so, I'd be so grateful myself! :cool1: Sounds like it worked out pretty well. ;)

We are going in February and I really think the Poly would be a wonderful fit for my family. We like a resorts with a unique theme, but the one we like to do is relax in a hot tub after a long day. Instead we are staying at the BC for our land/sea package. I know I will enjoy the BC, but when looking at pictures- the theme looks simple (IMO) compared to the Poly (with the exception of SAB).

Hi, thanks for your honest review. I have had similar front desk CM experiences in other deluxe resorts also. I understand. ;) After they fix the issue they leave you standing there in a bit of disbelief.....AND don't appologize to you for their awkwardness.

I think that same overworked, little old man brought my laundry to us last summer! Poor guy.

In re the hot tub issue, there is a place, within the Volcano pool, where the heated jets for the pool come out, and there is a bench seat there. I know it's not a separate hot tub, but it's pretty nice to sit there. I believe it's to the right of the slide, as you look at it.

I agree with you about the Barefoot Bar. The whole time I was sitting at the bar having my drink the two bartenders complained about how many people there were and how overworked they were. (I was the ONLY person at the bar!) I couldn't believe they were doing that and I wondered if they were just trying to get me to go away. LOL. :rotfl:

I find that the Poly is really good about trying to give you the room you want. :) But of course not everyone can get what they want... really the CM's only obligation is to give you a garden view room, and depending on the personality of the person you get at check-in it can vary.

I love the Poly. I agree with the Barefoot Bar.

I waited and waited for a drink until I went up to the bar ~ well the bar maid darted towards me and we were served instantly. ;)
