....and are in the process of buying DVC. I've run some numbers and the best use of DVC is at the resorts in WDW. We go to DL every year and would likely use a lot of the points at Paradise Pier, Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian. I'm wondering if there are any rumors of a resort in California that would make this purchase a bit easier to make. I realize they will be just rumors but I just need that hope that a resort will be built a little closer to home.

Thanks.

I heard a few rumors to that effect, but I'm not holding my breath. We're in CA too and the way I looked at it was Disney was getting our money every year at the DLR hotels anyway, so we might as well take the plunge. Our resale purchase was not officially completed until after our trip last Oct to SSR so our official 1st trip as DVC members won't be until this Oct. Good luck with your decision.

I too am in California, and sure hope they build one here. I think the points price is pretty high at the DL Resorts. We bought anyway. I have gone to WDW at least 5 times in the last 8 years, so this way It will make me go. Can't afford to take my whole family back there. Airfare is too high, but several of them have gone one at a time. Wish we could all go together, but not at this time, too many in college. Lets hope that they will build one out here. Even at a 6-7 hour trip, I would be wonderful.....

We live in California too. A resort close to home would be great, but we have managed to vacation at WDW every 2 years. We love DVC. Can't wait for our next trip home to BWV. :cool1:

There have been several rumors in the past 6 months of a DVC resort at DL. According to these "rumors" Disney purchased the "strawberry fields" area around DL for a third theme park and a DVC resort to be tied into new hotels. I have never been to DL, so I don't how true this is, or if it's even possible.

Back around 1994, DVC actually announced a resort for Newport Beach. It was eventually supposed to open around 1997 and the land was actually purchased by DVC. However, the project was eventually killed and Disney sold the property to Marriott, which built its own timeshare resort at that location.

I would certainly use a DL DVC resort if it ever becomes available. :teeth:

...and, if you don't plan on vacationing there at least every other year, well, you're throwing away a lot of money by joining.

As for a DLR DCV Resort - Despite the innuendo of your guide, don't expect to see one anytime in the near future. (And certainly don't bet $15k on it's development.)

Until you can commit to visiting WDW or they do a surpise announcement of a new resort out here on the West Coast, forget it.

We live in CA and became DVC members last year.

Although we go to DL more often, we actually stay about the same number of nights each year at WDW because when we make the trek across country, we try to stay for at least 10 nights. We plan to use points at the DL resorts only in an emergency such as when we cancel a WDW trip and would have points that would otherwise expire.

For us, the DL resorts, even with the point reductions, are only a good deal if we would otherwise pay rack rate there or close to it. I think that a standard view at the DLH is 23 points per night in Value season. Those points are worth between $161 and $253, depending on how you value points ($7-$11).

Of course, with the 50th, there have been times when rack rate has been the only option if we wanted to stay at the DL resort. But offsite DL is a much more acceptabe option to us than off-site WDW, so usually we don't even consider paying rack rate at DL.

Good luck in your decision. -- Suzanne

We are also from CA, and yes the Value of points is best at WDW. And most of my vacations will be there.
BUT
I am really not concerned with getting the BEST VALUE each and every year, my concern is giving my family the best vacation possible each and every year. So I can see the Vacations to Disneyland Paris/Tokyo and even some cruises.

I have run the numbers and the Dues paid on the points required to take such trips is a decent deal, I know the purchase price is high to do that. But I will save enough on the WDW trips and If we sell in 15-20 years we could recoup some of that.

Also when it comes to a DL DVC, even if announced this decade. When would it open???
