she had a fever last week with no other symptoms but had a runny nose and woke up this morning with a cough. With all of the reports on TV I am afraid to give her any decongestants for relief....what else can I do. all of the planning can't prepare you for leaving with a sick kids. She is almost 4.

Anyone have any experience travelling with a kid with a cold? Anything I can do to make her comfortable on the plane?

BTW...i haven't started packing yet and I am freaking out. I pulled out the suitcases last night and pulled out some clothes but got totally overwhelmed by all of the stuff....:flower3:

I have no problem giving my kids cold medicine if they really need it. If they aren't complaining and the symptoms are not bad I don't give them anything. Just follow the instructions. As far as enjoying your trip, I would recommend renting a stroller for the 4 year old since she may get tired. Other than that, I wouldn't worry. She will probably feel fine once she gets to WDW. The only thing that scares me is that one of my kids will be throwing up when a trip is planned. A cold I can handle. You may want to have her Dr. take a quick look at her before you go to make sure she isn't developing some type of ear or sinus infection.

I would get her to the dr today. it could be bacterial/ secondary to the viral-fever. I would ask if he would consider giving you an antibiotic to take along just in case but not give it unless she developed certain symptoms that might indicate 2ndary infection.

The major concerns with children's cold meds are mis-use and the fact that they just are not very effective in under two crowds. I would ask for a recomindation at the dr and give it to her if it seems to help ,along wtih tylenol if that helps her.

Prayer for a healthy trip.

I agree, get her in to the doctor if you can. My dd came home throwing up the day before we left in Feb. I was freaking out!! I called the doc, explained the situation and they gave her a shot for nausea. They also gave us a script to get filled either before we left or down there if we needed it.She was a little more tired than usual at the beginning of the trip but still enjoyed every minute of it. Good luck!!

I would get to the doctor as well. I have traveled to WDW with a sick kid before, and I want to say she had an ear infection so she needed an antibiotic. I just remember her being really tired. After that experience, I make sure to always bring medicine, just in case. You doctor can best tell you what she has and how to treat it.

Definitely get her to the doctor!!! Your doc may ok the cold medicine to keep the eustacian tubes open on the plane ride. If they block, she will have severe pain and ear infection...poor little one. Sending you blessings and hope it all works out.. My Makayla got sick just like that before we left and she was on antibiotics and a decongestant...she got better as the week went by.
