Oh boy! Thank goodness it didn't happen while on vacation. We ended up ordering a Canon A590-IS from Amazon, and (gasp!) actually paid shipping to ensure we will get it in time to figure out how to use it before we leave.

Anyone else have something like this happen right before vacation??

No, I have not had it happen, but do feel for you.

we are currently camera shopping for our upcoming trip (5 weeks away) and all this chooing is making me crazy.

I hope all works out and you get your camera before you leave.

I haven't had one die on me before, but I have had the battery die. Since that trip, I always carry a spare charged battery into the park with me plus charge the batteries in the hotel room at night. I also try to bring more memory cards than I think I need. I take lots and lots of pics!

What usually happens to us, is the camera dies on the trip. Luckily it is usually a battery issue (one time I forgot the charger). Now I know I can recharge at the camera shop. What a mess it is to scramble at the last minute. Pixie dust to you on your search for a camera!:wizard:

We found a new one online, very quickly. I was shocked at how quickly I did find one. I expected to be hunting for one for at least a day. It took me a whole 5 minutes to find one and show it to DH.

We ended up ordering a Canon Powershot A590-IS. It got very good ratings, and seems like a nice camera.

:)

I have the worst luck when it comes to cameras and dying/losing right before vacation too! In '07, one week before a big family trip to Utah, our digital camera died (at DD's dance recital, of course). We scrambled to research, buy online, and figure out in that week (I think that's why there's so many pix of that trip, with the new cam)

Then last fall, DH LOST our digicam on a Boy Scout campout FOUR days before our trip to WDW!! Not even time for shipping! We went to Circuit City that night and got a new Elph which we love because it is so compact. (Postscript: a month later going through gear for the next campout, DH found the camera at the bottom of his Camelbak backpack!)

So now I never assume I'll have a working camera for a trip!

Our camera died on us also and we leave in 12 days. :scared: It is under warranty and Canon is supposed to have it back to us in 7 days. :cool1: I really didn't want to take our old one. Canon has been wonderful to work with, and I will be really happy if it gets here in time.
