We have our first cruise on hold, what other expenses do we need to consider?

I remember reading somewhere that some have ordered a carafe of coffee the night before to drink the following morning. Is there a charge for this?

There's no charge for most room service items, and that includes the carafes of coffee, but it is customary to tip a couple dollars. The items from room service which have a charge are sodas (because they are cans of soda), alcoholic beverages, and some individually packaged candy and nuts.

Point 52; water. Is this Perrier or Evian water or is it 'normal water'. My kids usually drink water, can they bring their refillable bottles to dinner, I thought that I read that there is a place where one can fill their bottle. Or would one recommend to buy some water and bring it on board, but would these bottle be allowed at the table? What do other people with young prefer to give their children during meals?

The water is is plain bottled, and it comes at a price. You can bring your own bottled water, so long as it is in your carry-on and not your checked luggage. There is water at the drink stations. To avoid cross contamination you use a new cup each time, but you can use the smallish cups to fill your own drinking bottle. You can bring your botted water to the MDRs, but there is no need - ice water is served.

The nice thing about your servers' tips is that you can call DCL ahead of the cruise and pay them in advance. That takes care of one sizable bill before you get onboard.

I also recommend bringing lots of one dollar bills onboard for incidental tips (room service, porters, etc.)

You can bring your own bottled water, so long as it is in your carry-on and not your checked luggage.

You can also buy a water bottle package from DCL in advance of the cruise (via calling), and it will be waiting for you in your stateroom fridge upon arrival. That's easier than carrying the water onboard if you fly into Orlando for the cruise.

But this is only if you like having extra bottled water around the ship, at port & in your stateroom. They will give you regular water at dinner for no charge just like at any restaurant on land.

Thank you Joe and Shanti for explaining. Strange that you can get a lot of free drinks in the MDR but not something as basic as water but with ordering up front and maybe bring a bottle or two that is easily solved.

Actually, you can easily get icewater in the MDR. No need to buy bottles unless you want bottled.
