Yes! I remember the night that we arrived in Japan. We flew in from Chicago and went straight to the Toyko Bay Hilton from Narita. We were starved, jet lagged and grumpy so we ate in the Italian restaurant in the hotel. Two tiny plates of pasta and non-alcholic drinks cost over $80 USD! We dropped close to $100 on dinner and we big Americans were still hungry! After that, nothing phased me price-wise except for the melons. The Japanese love to give expensive melons as gifts:Margaret64 said:All I can tell you is the cost of food was extremely high.
These melons were $50-$100 each in 2000!
Once we got out of the Disneyland area we were able to find restaurants which were much cheaper.
