We finally pretty much finished decorating the tank, so stopped by the store tonight and ended up coming home with fish for our tank! We're starting with 5 long-finned zebra danio, and 6 neon tetra. One of the danio was very unhappy and stressed when we first put him in the tank (and yes, we let the water equalize), but after about 5 minutes he was up and swimming with both his kind and the tetra. But one of the tetra, the smallest, is still stressed and hiding away from the others. I'm hoping he'll settle in okay by morning.

*scratches head* Okay, apparently we now have 5 neons. I *know* I counted six when we put them in the tank, but we just absolutely can not find #6. #5 is still looking sickly and I'll be surprised if he survives the night (he's the smallest and the move is obviously a big shock to him), but #6 was healthy looking when we put him in. He's just nowhere to be found now. And no, neither of the kitties got into the tank.

Only thing we can think of is either he's found a good hiding place that we can't find, or he rode the bubble-wall (which we have since turned down) and got up enough momentum to jump out exactly right (he'd have to hit a small opening, but it's possible) and into the waiting jaws of a kitty. 'Cause he's not in the filters, not in the open, not floating on the top, not behind the heater, and not on the gravel. We'll see tomorrow. Maybe he's just hiding in one of our hollow decorations and will come out tomorrow.

That used to happen all the time when I had Neons Rajah.

I think they're with all the socks I've lost in the dryer. ;)

conCATulations on your fishies, Tammi. So how are the kitties taking it? :p

Well, wherever he was hiding, he's back now. I swear they must be able to teleport or something, because we could *NOT* find him last night. (Okay, in reality, there is *one* hiding place in the tank that he could be in where we wouldn't be able to see him from any angle, and I expect that's where he was)

Also, one of our neons is younger/smaller than the others, and he's not adjusting well. :( I was surprised to find him still alive this morning, actually. If he's still alive when I get home, I'll be surprised. He's not schooling with the others and I think he's more shocked by the changes than his siblings are. I keep debating taking him back and exchanging for one larger, or giving him a full chance. We do have 2 weeks to exchange him if there's trouble, but I don't want to give up on him just because he's smaller and having trouble. We'll see.

But everyone else was doing well this morning when I left. :) Though only the danios ate when I fed them. Doesn't surprise me too much.

Skye's just kinda "eh". Sienna's the one who's interested. But she can't get close enough to torment them, it's so cute. She'll sit on the arm of the couch (about 3 feet away) and streeeeeetch her neck trying to watch, or she'll stand on her tip-toes and streeeetch-BAT! Then streeeeetch-BATBAT! But she can't stand tall enough to terrorize like she did Bob. This morning she was so cute -- usually she'll sit on my lap in the morning for a few minutes before I get moving. This morning she wanted her lap-time to be in by the tank. :)
