We got a NEW puppy...advice PLEASE!

ONE!?? We adopted 2 to replace the ONE that had passed on....so glad we did, they are SO much FUN!! Please keep up with the crating and puppie pads, we didn't and needless to say.... They are VERY hard to Potty train, especially BOYS, but my Lady Bug is very good.

We have 5 doxies in our family. I have three (Cricket, Beau, and Dixie) and my dad has two (Penny and Babe Ruth). We didn't crate train so I can't help you there. My doxies have never had anything to eat but Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites and they have the most beautiful coats and are VERY healthy. Doxies (like other breeds) love to chew so have plenty of chew toys. Doxies also have NO fear! To be such small dogs they sure do think they are much bigger than they really are. My biggest and most important piece of advice for you is this: watch Bailey's weight! Dachshunds have so many issues with back problems. It is very important to keep her weight at the correct level and DO NOT let her jump! Even though they like to jump, that is an activity that is very bad for the back. Have a wonderful time with your puppy and be sure to post pictures. Doxies are very addictive little creatures. I have had 8 in my life and I can't imagine life without my doxies!

Great minds, right? Thanks for all the info guys...

Anybody out there find it difficult to keep their Doxie from jumping? I know it's bad for them, but what worked to curb this?

I can't offer any advice on how to stop her from jumping...Bailey is on and off the couch constantly and I cringe everytime she does it. We have been very lucky so far and not had any back issues but it is something I worry about.
