We got a bad BWV Boardwalk View room... didn't know that was possible.

Yes, apparently there is a "bad" Boardwalk View room at the BWV. I didn't think that was possible, but after finally snagging one of the precious few Boardwalk view rooms by booking 11 months in advance... we actually got a bad boardwalk view.

Last month we checked in at BWV and I could tell by the room number that we had the top floor, which I was excited about! We go up to the room only to find out that our room is the one way above the entrance to the Brewing Company restaurant. If you're ever walking on the boardwalk past the restaurant, take a look up and you'll notice that the balcony for our room is cut into the roof of the building. Which means the "railing" of our balcony is actually a solid wall about 4.5 feet high!! It's funny that there are two chairs there to sit in, but if you do, you'll just be looking at a wall. :rotfl: Yes, we could stand and see out at the Boardwalk and fireworks at Epcot... and it was an awesome view while standing, don't get me wrong. But unfortunately the only way our kids could enjoy the view is if we picked them up. :crazy2: Not exactly what I want to do after a long day at the parks. :faint: Oh well... can't complain too much. We were at Disney World and staying at a nice resort! I'd rather be sitting on that balcony facing the wall right now, than at my desk at work. :rotfl2:

We probably had the same villa a few years ago and thought it was the best balcony and view ever. Funny how two people can see the same thing so differently. Different strokes!

You had a balcony with a no-see thru 4.5 foot high wall and thought it was the best balconey ever? OK

Sure did - the view of the EPCOT fireworks and the lake was perfect. It was also a quiet BWV room - some of the villas on the lower floors are loud because they are so close to the boardwalk. I would take that villa and balcony again in a heartbeat - we would gladly trade having a closed in balcony for such a perfect location. My family is actually hesitant to stay in a BWV boardwalk view villa again - we know the chances are slim that we would be as happy with any other villa that we would be assigned.

Fair enough :thumbsup2

We feel the same way, and always request a "solid wall balcony" room---which is how we describe the--villa. LOL!!
The views are wonderful, the noise level is almost null, and although our traveling group is now all adults, so therefore can all see over the "solid wall" of the balcony-----I would want this type of balcony wall even with toddlers and small children----much safer, imho.

I might have asked if another room was available! On the other hand, we got a good view in a standard villa. Our room was right above the art store. (name?) We could see some fireworks and some of the boardwalk. FF, Espn and that area!

we had that type of balcony at AKL and we immediately asked to be moved! we ended up having to pay for an upgrade in order to do so, and we were fine with that!

Wow, I didn't know they had one of those at BWV. I always request the enclosed balconies at WL when I stay there, and since most people don't like them for the same reasons, I usually don't have a problem getting my request. I hate to sit out on my balcony and feel like I'm on display at a zoo or something. I had a wonderful afternoon earlier this month at WL, sitting on my private balcony with a cool drink and a good book. When I want to see the view, I can, but when I want to just relax outdoors, I can do it in privacy. I feel like it's the best of both worlds!

It is so funny, how different we all are. These are our very favorite rooms at AKL! We also love the solid wall balcony rooms at BWV! LOL!

I actually consider 5011 and 5017 to be the prime villas at BWV! While you do lose the view when sitting, you do gain a fantastic view while standing. The more enclosed design also helps to keep the rain out. However (and this is a big however for some as you've noticed), it isn't the best balcony for sitting down and people watching.

Anytime I've asked for a different room they always say they are full. Right above the art store would have been preferred garden view for DVC. If you booked through CRO, they almost always upgrade to pool/garden because members take the standard views in the front.

I had 4011 once (1 bedroom) and considered it once of the worse boardwalk views. It just had a small balcony that only opened up through the bedroom plus you could see the overhang.
