We did the SEGWAY tour on 9/21 @ 9am at it was incredible!!!!!!!!!

I recommend it to everyone-- well over 16!

I was a bit scared I wouldnt get the hang of it- so when were in EPCOT one night we were walking through Innovations and you can try one out for free! It is only for 5 minutes- no big deal- but it was free!

I thought that would be good for me- at least I can get the feel of it before the big day! I was a little rocky-

The big day came, you meet at guest relations and then go over to the Innovations bldg, there, you have to watch an instructional/educational video- the instructor talks to you about - I guess a half hour or more- you then go out of the video room and the SEGWAYS are lines up- you practice getting off and on- turning the machine off and on- and then you do some maneuvers on the carpet- around cones, practice stopping, going up and down the ramp. By then- you feel very comfortable on it- not a problem.

We all then line up like little ducklings and follow the leader- there is also a instructor who follows behind- in case any little ducks fall behind!- We rode over to the restrooms, just in case! and then off we go, over to the World Showcase- its great- everyone is looking at you like you are the luckiest person in the world! :rotfl:

We went through Mexico and Norway- those 2 countries were open to the public at this time b/c of the princess BF in Norway- but then you head on over to China where someone is waiting to open the ropes just for you! We rode through China all the way to the back into the store and around- we get a little story about China and we are off- this time we are allowed to space out- we dont have to do a line anymore, but still stayed close- we then rode through Germany- though the little sit down part in the back- we all stop and get another little tid-bit of info and then off to Italy--- we rode in and out of the large columns out front and then we rode around to the back- and they let you try making a 360 turn right on the little ramp by Alfredos- it feels pretty cool- like you are going to fall over- but of course, you dont!

This is where you get to ride around for a while- they set up cones at the parameters of Italy and the beginning of America and you can ride as you want all around this area- you stop and get pics- the instructors will take them for you with your own cameras. We stayed about 1/2 hr maybe a bit more. By the time we got to France the "stampede" was coming over the bridge- we had to maneuver the crowd- remember these are the people who dont pay attention to where they are walking- THEY DONT EVEN SEE A SEGWAY COMING AT THEM! our instructor then took us over to the UK gardens- we rode through the english garden crazy pathway!!!!! it was great- you know you are a pro when you can get through the maze without falling off the edge-- everyone made it without a problem!! :goodvibes

We then went back to Innovations and got our little SEGWAY pins!

It was sooooooo worth doing this-- DH LOVED! IT! and I have to say- I had tons of fun!

If you have a chance-- do it!

I have always wanted to do this. We had it scheduled once in May 05 on our 25th anniversary trip. However, it was scheduled for our last day, and it poured and was so cold. The tour was canceled, we got our money back and an opportunity to reschudule. But, like I said, it was our last day, so we couldn't. I am considering scheduling it again for our upcoming trip. I just have to see if I can afford it. Thanks for the report, it so sounds like fun.

So does this mean the tours are running again? I know they were stopped b/c of the Segway recall.... We have a tour scheduled for December and I don't want to miss it!!

Thanks so much for the report. I was also a little scared to do the tour because I wasn't sure I could stay on, but last week (9/20-just the day before your big tour), I got to do that 5 minute "test-run". Now I'm ready for the full tour! That little 5 minute thing in Epcot is a great way to test out how you think you'd do-and it's free besides! Just one question-how did you get those great pictures? Did you bring a camera, or did the CM take pictures?

Isn't it big fun?

We did this in February '05 and absolutely LOVED it. I was afraid I wouldn't get the hang of it. I'm not exactly a youngster :teeth: so I was a little worried. I was very proud of myself. I had no problems at all and enjoyed every minute of it. We surprised our son with the Segway Tour (he was 18 at the time) and he thought it was awesome.

Thanks for the great review. Am planning on surprising my sister with one during our upcoming trip. She's joining me 1/2 way through the trip and I think it will be alot of fun for both of us. Just have to pay off my trip the beginning of next month, then I can book the tour. She's been on a Segway before in California, but I've never been on one.

Oh dear, if you mean you really haven't booked the tour yet for the dates you're going I'd do that right now! I hope you still find spaces available for you!!

It's really a neat machine. Thanks to the OP for the fun review!! :sunny:

.

I want to do this too!! I am thinking of booking it for DH as a birthday surprise. We will be there on his BD this year. But I am SOOOO bad at keeping secrets!! It sounds awesome though, thanks for the review!!

THanks for the review! We're doing Keys to the Kingdom this time, but I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. I think DH would LOVE it!

Thanks for the review! It sounds ace, I have it booked for me & df in a few days but like a prev poster metioned I assumed due to the Segway recall all tours had been scrapped for now? Will have to check with the CM when I get to Pop

I read, somewhere, that the recall only stopped the tours for a few days. No big problem since it was just a software issue.

I did it just last Thursday 9/21!

The tours are on! and you know what?- not one person asked about the problem during the orientation (out loud, that I heard, anyway) and the instructors didnt even bring it up--- I guess it was no biggy!

I didnt really care- I figured if they are letting me ride it--- YAY! :yay:

Everyone had their own camera- you just handed them over to the CM/instructors and they took your pic w/ your camera! they didnt care how many times you asked! They were SUPER nice! :goodvibes

edited- I did take some pics by myself- they didnt really want you holding a camera while riding- but it was no biggy- they take the pics of YOU though.

How much does it cost? :confused3

It was around 80.00 each person. They have different tours, different prices, different time limits. (this is what we were told when we were in Innovations- but the Disney site does not state the different time limits and prices)

I got a 15% discount with my AAA card. I read this on wdwinfo.com:
15% AP and AAA 20% DVC, Disney Visa BUT! I asked when I booked if I got a dscount with my Disney VISA and I was told no! :confused3

I would call the Disney tour# just in case- $$ and info sounds conflicting!

How far in advance can you book the tour?? I'll be there Jan 16-21 and would like to do the segway tour.

Hi
We're doing the Segway tour in December and I got a 15% discount with my Disney Visa. It was 68.00 and they charged my account already. I've paid for it and they said if we couldn't make it that I have to let them know 48 hours ahead and they would refund my money. I'm glad you had a great time on these. My girlfriend and I (girls only trip) are really excited to try this and also a little nervous, but can't wait to do it.

I just booked my tour today, and got a 15% discount with my disney visa. I didn't have to ask for the discount, she asked me if I had AAA, AP, Disney Visa, and then let me know what the discount was. I think the total per person was $68 with the discount. We booked the 7:45 tour, has anyone else done this early time? I think I read somewhere that it is a new time slot. I figured there would be less people in the park since it isn't open yet.

:cool1:
