Hi,
At Outside Hilton Head (over by Piggly Wiggly), we took part in a gps scavenger hunt. We rented the gps for 24 hours, they gave us clues and we went on our way. We've been going to HHI for 10 years and saw parts of the island that we had never seen before. The 3 of us had a ball. Just wanted you to know.

Sounds like geocaching. Google it. You will find lots of "hidden" treasures near your home.

Cool. Did you need a car to do it or could you do it on a bike?

I always here alot about this geocaching....does it work with your own gps and how and what is it?

Cora,
Sounds like fun and a good idea for any vacation. Thanks for sharing on the boards.:cool1::banana:

HN,
You could go by bike, if you bike alot. We did it by car and it took a total of about 5 hours (we did it over 2 days).

It's fun. You need a GPS that you can carry with you. I just went on www.geocaching.com and searched Hilton Head, there are 250 stashes.

What you do - find a cache you would like to find. The site will give you the coordinates, and you go find it. There will usually be a little Tupperware container hidden somewhere - that's what you are looking for. Sometimes there is a journal in it you sign, sometimes there is a "travel bug". Some travel bugs are similar to a dog tag, the bug has an ID, you take the bug, and then you go put it in another cache somewhere. Then you go online with the bugs ID number and update the file of where the bug is. Some travel bugs have goals - they want to get to CA. You can also leave something - a DVC key chain or something, and then you can take something.

There are virtual geocaches in Disney World itself. Someone will put in the coordinates and when you find it - you take a picture of yourself and post it online.

I probably haven't explained it well - go check out www.geocaching.com, best part about it - it's free.
